Three days a week I get to listen to exactly that racket from the young metal heads and would be shredders who visit the Guitar store where I work. Invariably, they'll pick up a BC Rich or something similar and wail away.

Hell, even one of our instructors drove us mad yesterday with an hour and a half of almost non-stop "practice" (i.e., 4000 notes a minute, over and over). I was praying for the oft predicated Rapture to materialize to get me out of there!

Fortunately, most of our clientele is made up of more *ahem* mature folks who are either ex-players coming back to the guitar, or currently active gig-ers. And of course, the No Stairway to Heaven rule is strictly enforced.

I was at a Guitar Center recently, three of their employees were mindlessly shredding the WHOLE TIME in their skinny jeans and striped shirts. Made me ears bleed. I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND!

My dad and myself were looking around a local guitar shop one day when a group of these oxygen stealing, non-guitar playing youths came in and started messing about in the electric guitar department.

After 5 minutes running round the shop repeatedly plucking open strings (why do people do that?), playing air guitar and trying to break stuff they started to get bored. One of them (the clever one with the gift of speech) wandered off into the acoustic dept, seconds later he came running back out with a shocked look on his face.

At the top of his voice - and completely serious - he announced to his gang "Come and look at this, these ones are made of wood!!!"

another one was a conversation we overheard in a shop was between two kids. One was trying to convince the other that to get the Jimi Hendrix sound you have to use a curly lead!

God help the country

P.S. Question. Why can't people learn to tune a guitar? Seriously, I've been in loads of shops and there is always someone attempting to play 'Sweet Child O' Mine' at full volume, out of tune! Why god why
