There's a guy here in Holland doing this, buying Mat guitars, showing them off on the forum and then selling them on. Yes i hate dealers but OTOH it's a free marketplace. 300 UKP seems a bit stiff for a Rainbow although recently a Rainbow went for well over 300 euro here in Holland.

A purple Rainbow 1 sold for $650.00 AU here in O.Z, I was hoping to snag it for around $350.00, got out bidded while I
was @ work. Must be a few Mats fans in my neck of the woods too.

it seems people DO prefer the chase of an auction, this was relisted as an auction and went for £310!

That neck pup looks a bit suspicious to me!

I've put my new increased lowball bid on it. Increased because after months if not over a year of lowball bidding, I've still won nothing with them. Given my experience, I can't understand what those people putting £0.99 bids on things are thinking.

Edit: FFS, I bid and the current bid goes up to £2.20 with three bids. What are the two other people thinking! Even I have no expectation of my bid succeeding, and it's orders of magnitude higher than that.

Bottom feeding maggots; flies on poo. Evil or Very Mad
These guys also help bugger up auctions in the final minutes. They're not serious bidders, just screwing around hoping to get lucky. I suspect many are also defaulters, causing more misery and lost opportunities for legitimate participants.

That said, depending on the type of auction, the auto bid function will only ratchet it up in small increments, so it isn't always possible to lay in a large initial bid.

I promise you that if I ever win an auction for £67.21 or thereabouts, that I won't be defaulting!!!!!

However, I've just been through and deleted my ebay email from my mailbox. The number of "you didn't win" emails I found took up several pages.

BTW: That sum is only because a Rainbow isn't my highest priority right now, but it costs nothing to bid. I'm actually p'd off at myself that I missed Westbone's Thunder 2A as that went for less than I predicted. But of course, even if I'd bid a bit over what it went for, that doesn't mean that I would have won. (Though presumably Westbone wishes I had at least tried).
