Westone Thunder IA electric guitar - Current bid is £1.31 and counting!
A nice and clean example of the T1 active model finished in Sunset Red. The only problems visible are the broken battery cover and of course, the brass knobs have been swiped, but the the ones fitted do look similar to Matsumoku made items fitted to some other models.

An odd colour. Maybe it's the lighting but it appears to have some purple in it?

Bloody marauding brass minkeys! They need to be whacked!

Pretty sure it's the lighting.

Yeah, I have a T1 with the same finish as this one (only mine is in bits, naturally!) and it is a dark colour.

My guitar can change to a purpley hue like this one and can even look red-brown depending on the light.

Yeah, it's interesting to me how the transparent Mats colours/finishes do that. I read somewhere that they initially used Toyota car paint colours. Dunno if that's an urban myth or not, maybe on the solid finishes?

It does seem like they have something else going on there besides a simple automotive paint. Or maybe it's simply some sort of light refraction caused by the grain? I think I'll pose that question to Tom Presley and see if he can offer any insight.

It would be nice to find out, all I know is that the paint is rock solid.

So far it's laughed in the face of sand paper and Nitromors, even the onslaught of swear words I threw at it couldn't make it peel! Smile

I was focusing on the colour mainly Dan, but you're right, the finish is tough as nails!!

I don't know about Uncle Mat using car paint but it would be nice if it were true. A couple of books I've read on Fender said that the early Strats and Teles were painted with auto paints so maybe more than an urban myth.

I'm not sure now is the time to brag about a connection with Toyota though Wink
