Potting pickups Empty Potting pickups

Anyone have first hand experience with how wax potting pickups changes their sound?

Love how my MMK45's sound, but on stage they're just too squeally for most situations.

Contacted our local guitar expert, he says that the heat required for potting is also precisely the temperature it takes to "turn the windings into spaghetti" for old pickups like our MMK45's and Super Distortions.

So anyone with personal experience in this area?  How specifically did it change the sound?

Face Palm Haven't heard that before, but, oh, that can't be good. I guess he means the temp will make the wire distort?

No they won't distort, impossible.

Think he means it'll melt the enamel insulation rendering them useless but I certainly don't think it will.

Have potted many a pickup, no problems.

You won't notice any sound difference with our ears.

My experience as well; haven't potted as many as Damian but I've done a few - including MMK45s - with no bad experiences at all.
