What is 'that' neck?
Ohhh, but the Spectrums of course! Circa 1985. Bloody fantastic! Also transported to many of the Vantage Avenger line. Everyone who picks up one of mine comments on it. Same is true of the Concord II and the Thunder IA
I've never come across a bass bridge design that had any problems
Perhaps not in Westone but we have a few people tearing their hair out in the Mats forum over some Aria Pro II's which are bending and folding majestically!

Too true. Just have a look at the strange stuff coming out of Gibson these days!

Barry, "that neck" you're talking about originated on the Electra line, so it was developed at least as early as 1980, though Tom was experimenting with it through the years and it may have been used on some of Electra's earlier guitars as well. But yes, the neck is the most common reasoning for most Phoenix/Spectrum users.

I have seen a few X390s and the odd X350 with a Bendmaster Deluxe. I am utterly mystified as to why they put them on when they were also using Kahlers on the same models.

Cheaper no doubt!

Oh well, perhaps someone will figure a way to swap out the bridge successfully on a 390 someday.
ya..that's a neck thru ain't it?..only way would be moving the trem posts...hey has anyone ever tried swapping out the saddles? Is there room enough to put locking FR saddles on it making it a tru locking system? Although my mind is slightly foggy on what the BMD really looks like now since it's been so long, but it seems to me the saddles attach the same way with a screw and the tightening lock block screw sticks out the back just like the BMD right? I will say right now I can't honestly say since I don't have one to look at with me..just a thought..can anyone else help with this?

You could probably get a machinist to move the knife edges back on the Floyd but they would have to be hardened.

True except that at least on the X-300, the neck profile is very similar if not identical to the X-390, albeit in bolt-on form. It is a very comfortable shape. Very fast but not so thin that I fatigue quickly like a Jackson or Charvel.

Well I never! Would this be a record price for the sale of a Pantera? Shocked

There was a white one in Israel that went for a higher price (over one year ago)...but apart from that i think so. The last (white) x390 on ebay usa went for about 1000 usd if I remember that right.

By the way: I guess it would be better to give that thread a proper heading...

No, neither are the record.

I never seen a X390 w/ BMD just the Kahler pro....is the BMD recessed? If so changing the knife edges wouldn't help. My suggestion was to swap out the saddles on the BMD for FR ones...they are just clamps held on by 1 screw. isn't the saddle on the BMD adjusted the same way? ...I can't remember what the BMD looks like...just those damned little tabs that held the string down.

Now anyone have a similar pic of the FR? I'm not sure saddles can be swapped out, but it is work a look.
I'm also a bit disappointed at UPS - they have delayed the delivery of the 390 till tomorrow Sad - oh the agony of waiting.

Oh no there it is!!!!! affraid

I bet it could be done....and turn it into the best trem ever!!!!!!! Twisted Evil Might have to lower the base plate...maybe route out a recess like my TRS...or angle the neck back, this could very well work, I see potential. May need to lengthen the adjustment screw slot..I wish I still had mine I'd start working on it now!

You wouldn't quite get the intonation on all strings, unless another hole was tapped for the anchor bolt closer to the front of the bridge. Not a lot of room, just enough. I've used an old jackson locking bridge before on a spectrum You HAVE to shim the neck up a bit.

Yeah.. a little bit of modification looks like it can be done. How about just the locking block part? The BMD pivots just like the FR saddles for tuning.. what about just replacing the pivot piece? The rollers would finally have a purpose! Is that a Pantera?

No ,you'd have to use the whole 'piece' once strung up the fine tuners would work ok.
Pantera x300. Could always sink the neck in a touch. Trem doesn't get used that much so don't matter on this one.

Maybe worth looking around at different FR type saddles, some might be 'closer'

Those TRS ones look a better bet.

Indeed good point my TRS looks like its closer than the one you show, and good idea to look around stew-mac comes to mind they carry different brands, all in all this looks very do-able.

If that's the one in the picture, with the TRS 101 trem, that's just the name of a floyd rose clone made by Takeuchi, and no relation to the trevor Rabin guitars. They were used on some of the later Korean made Westones, I beleive they have also been used on Ibanex guitars.

You'd be hard pressed to find a non-licenced Floyd Rose onmost all guitars now. ..it's the same trem on that Villain, exact plus it looks exactly like my FR on my neck thru USA B.C. Rich Ironbird, the pieces are exact copies, certainly not some cheap knock-off. And the catalogue shows the same one too.... check out the link to the Westone catalogue;
http://www.westone.info/cats/sign/01.html
And being a fan of Ibanez...and owning several, Ibanez has always used their own, the Lo-Pros and the Edge series trems. I saw a link saying Ibanez used these, but I'll be damned if I could ever find a pic of one, must have been eons ago. the Edge series goes back some ways, if Ibanez ever did use these it was brief. Here's a link to what I Said...but I find no validity to the Ibanez connection...
http://www.aampselectricguitarstore.com/allparts/allparts_floyd_rose.html
Apparently Takeuchi makes trems for Ibanez...Ibanez do not use these except for the mention of one obscure model used briefly. The way Ibanez trems look...all the Edge and Lo-series are all distinctly made and shaped differently from a FR....and one of the most misunderstood trems I know of, having had to help many people figure out how to set them up... I even had to show my tech how.

Although this FR has height adjusters on the saddle a 'shim' type maybe a better fit. Less meat prior to saddle.

Excellent job...I think it's clear this can be done with a BMD....although when i had bought my Pantera new I had already built 2 guitars, there were no places that had all the parts I would have needed to modify my BMD, nor were there huge resources like the internet and all the different info I would have needed to do this...that being said, if I did have all this then...I would not have replaced my BMD with a FR.! :albino:
