LEFTY! -Thunder I (CAN)
I feel for all our Left handed players out there, especially if they're trying to find a somewhat niche or defunct brand.
Westones continue to be collectible which makes them more difficult to find generally, but to find what you're after, in a lefty?
More often than not, it is to weep.
Well, despair not! This Thunder turned up locally.
But to say it has seen better days would be an understatement!
The original brass nut has been replaced (naturally) as well as the brass knobs, and the bridge has been replaced. Hard to tell what it is exactly.
She's been mildly bruised, battered and "modded" but like all Mats instruments I'm confident she will respond to a lot of TLC and you would be rewarded with a solid player.
Thunders are awesome guitars and this is going cheap!

Is that a thunder 1? There's not a huge amount of info on the listing but that's a good price for a cool guitar. I wonder if they'd ship across the world...

Uh, yeah, that's how I posted it.1point5 wrote:Is that a thunder 1?...
Are you a lefty?
If you're at all handy I'd make an offer if I were you, the seller is entertaining "best offers" and under all that crap is a fantastic guitar!

Re: LEFTY! -Thunder I (CAN)
It's the Roman numeral "one" (I) not the letter "i"

Re: LEFTY! -Thunder I (CAN)
Not sure what you're trying to say there.
Roman numerals do not have a decimal (or dot) after them.
They are commonly used as stylized numbering on all kinds of product labels including guitars.
The Thunder line uses I, II, III, etc.
It's classier marketing than using common Arabic.
Edit: Looks like you deleted your post I was referring to, in which case, this post will make no sense to anyone reading it.

As much as I'd like it, it does feel a bit risky asking a guy about shipping the guitar to New Zealand without a case. If there's anyone more local than can facilitate, that'd be great.

New Zealand is a long way away from here, so you're right to be concerned about shipping.
I'm not exactly "local" but I live about an hour's drive away from the seller in Hamilton (looking at the map provided in the listing).
I could act as an intermediary in some capacity for you, and at least telephone him and offer instructions for safe shipping, etc.
If you agree, please contact him and let him know that I am authorized to speak on your behalf.
Then let me know what exactly what you are comfortable doing:
My suggestion would be to remove the neck and package it together with the body in bubble wrap, and then place it in a small sturdy cardboard box. This is only possible if you are comfortable with putting the neck back on (not that difficult).
This makes it smaller and cheaper to ship and it's the safest way to go since it prevents potential impact damage to the neck.
If you ship it assembled it would require a larger box and a lot of packaging to protect it.
If you ship it in a hard shell case, that would add greater protection but it also increases the weight and the cost considerably.
PM me and we can discuss off line.

Re: LEFTY! -Thunder I (CAN)
Neck off is the absolute best way to ship a guitar with a removable neck, especially if the cost of freight is a concern, and for those of us in the Antipodes, it most certainly always is!!
I’ve had many shipped to NZ amd Australia from the Uk and the US, neck off and in a much smaller box that would otherwise be needed; one arrived well packed in an Apple computer box!!
Of course, if it has the OEM case, and you’re dead set on having that case, all bets are off - you’ll be paying the usurious prices that postal services charge these days!!
I’ve always figured that I can get a case cheaply enough locally to not include it in the sale…

Re: LEFTY! -Thunder I (CAN)
Yep. I know. No stranger to having things shipped out here. My other Westone was shipped from Scotland, my Gibson from England, another one from Japan, my Jackson is from Germany, and my strat from Australia. Not my first rodeo.
However, I don't think that Westone is for me. The bridge pickup being changed irks me as the MMK45s are really really nice and to get another one isn't an expense you can recoup. And I just bought a Mesa Boogie which has satisfied my GAS for a while.
