Pantera Bass Conversion to Guitar?
An acquaintance has a Pantera x750 bass (2 pickups) he'll sell me cheap ($220). It has a bolt on neck & the exact color I want.
I've hunted for a Pantera guitar under $500 with no luck.
I noticed a Westone guitar neck and pickups for sale. If I switch to a guitar neck and pickups, will I have a decent guitar?
I haven't yet looked for a Pantera-like guitar bridge but I'm optimistic I'll find one.

Much respect for your knowledge, but what reasons will the bass to guitar conversion sound bad?Westbone wrote:no
Does the Pantera base and guitar have the same shape?
Wouldn't both the Pantera bases and guitars have started out the same shaped block of wood?
I realize that I'll need to do some rewiring & soldering but have an aspiring Luthier friend who can get it done economically.
Re: Pantera Bass Conversion to Guitar?
No.
Completely different physics & geometry involved. It would necessitate major butchering and refinishing of the Pantera body to replace and relocate pickups and bridge.
Even then. . .No.

Re: Pantera Bass Conversion to Guitar?
Westone, the issue is not the shape of the body, it's the physical location of the pickups and the bridge to accommodate the different scale length.
You would have to destroy that beautiful instrument and basically rebuild everything. It is not a straight swap out.
You can convert a guitar into a baritone guitar which as close as you would get to a bass, but you would not be successful going the other way (ie, from bass to guitar). These are two different instruments.

Do you feel $445 is a fair price for a black x275 with only 1 nick?
Re: Pantera Bass Conversion to Guitar?
Without seeing the guitar any comment I make would be tentative, but that would seem to be a reasonable price, especially if a case is included.
One nick is bugger all to worry about in a 40+ year old instrument. What's more important is the playability and condition of electronics and hardware.

How much did your Pantera's cost you?
Re: Pantera Bass Conversion to Guitar?
I do not own a Pantera.
