What necks will fit a Genesis bass
Hello all
I bought a used Genesis bass and the neck has some issues. It looks like it was re-glued and the fretboard does not quite line up with the neck at the nut. It lines up fine all down the neck until the first few frets. I suspect the neck is warped slightly, but still troubleshooting that.
Does anyone know what necks will fit the Genesis bass neck pocket. I believe it’s the same neck used on the Thunder bass, but if someone can confirm or deny that?
Has anyone else seen something like this? Any input is very much appreciated.

Hey Rocktower, some pix would help with suggestions eh?
It may be possible to salvage the current neck which would be the best outcome.

Re: What necks will fit a Genesis bass
It’s really hard to get in a picture because it’s so slight, but I can feel it with fingers easily enough. The last two show it the best. See how the fretboard in the second to last is just a hair outside the line of the nut? The nut is right even with the neck. Probably something I can live with but it bugs me.

Re: What necks will fit a Genesis bass
Geez I can see how that would be annoying, but there doesn't appear to be any issues with the neck itself. I would think twice about getting rid of it.
Is the opposite edge of the fret board indented by an equivalent amount? If it is then shaving the protruding side wouldn't help too much unless the gap side is also filled and levelled. Not impossible but a little finicky and tedious.
The ultimate solution is to lift the fret board and re-seat it, but that seems like overkill here.

Yeah. I have resolved to keep it and if it gets any worse replace the fretboard.
It is indented on the other side so I don’t want to shave the good neck to match the crooked fretboard.
What I don’t get is how it could rock crooked just by the nut when the rest of the neck is so inlined. I suspect that the neck must be tweaked just that much at the nut. It must have been tweaked when the fretboard was reglued and that’s why it’s out.
In any case it occurred to me that replacing it with a thunder neck won’t do. This is a 24 fret neck and the other Westone basses I have seen are just 22.

Oh no, you wouldn't touch the neck!It is indented on the other side so I don’t want to shave the good neck to match the crooked fretboard.
I made reference to filling and leveling the gap. It would be a pain in the arse but doable.
Depending on the void you'd either glue in a thin strip of veneer and level it, or make a paste of rosewood dust and glue. In both cases there's a lot of scraping/sanding.

Got it, I misunderstood which part you were referring to as the protruding part, but of course shaving the fretboard. That is what the tech at StewMac suggested. Splicing in some rosewood veneer and shaving off some on the other side.
I very much appreciate your input.
I will post some pictures of the prettier parts here soon.
