Westone Guitar Tech
Hi
Does anyone know of any guitar techs in the UK who are familiar with the Westone Thunder 1A wiring? I've got one which I've had since the 80s and gigged with it loads but haven't used it for a number of years. I've had a couple of guitar techs look at the wiring and make repairs and its working, but it's temperamental. Rather than replace the pick ups I'd really like to get it checked over and have it working gig reliably again. I realise i could get another Thunder through ebay but this is the one that has been with me for a long time.
All the best

Re: Westone Guitar Tech
Welcome here and let's see what's what!!
What's 'temperamental' mean in your case? Is the signal cutting in and out? Dodgy switching?
It could be something as simple as swapping out a component, which is something any halfway decent tech should be able to do competently in their sleep!
I don't know of any techs in the UK apart from our own Westbone, so maybe he can point you in the right direction??

Westone Guitar Tech
Hi
Yes the signal cuts out when I change to the bridge pick up sometimes and there are crackly switches. I'd have to sit and check the various combinations to see what is working and not. The last time I spoke to a guitar tech I have used before he advised just replacing them but the pick up themselves sound fine and I've always liked the tone.

Re: Westone Guitar Tech
Hi, I created the wiring diagrams for the Thunder actives and produced some replica circuit boards. i'd be happy to take a look at it for you - I'm in Northumberland, about 10 miles north of Newcastle. Sounds like it may just need some switch cleaner.

Re: Westone Guitar Tech
Sounds like you may just need to apply contact cleaner to your switches and give them a damn good thrashing to and fro.
Repeat and rinse.
I'd try that before sending it off to pay a tech to do the same.
