Tonerider pickups.... and other stuff.
You blokes know I have a customised strat, right?! Well, it wasn't turning my crank at all and I was idly wondering whether I should do something it when a bloke on a forum over here offered up a set of Tonerider Classic strat pickups (and a set of Tonerider Tele classics) for quite a bit less than a kings ransom so I bought 'em both!
The Tele set I threw at the SPectrum Tele at once and yes; they made a difference - not a huge difference but enough to warrant the change!
"Good-o!" thinks I, and proceed to whack the new set of strat pickups into the Strat not expecting too much chnge, and just "WOW!!" .... what a difference! The thing came to life in huge lumps and I'm well pleased!!
Toneriders are great pickups especially at their price point and I'll use 'em again, I reckon!!
At the same time, I decided to add a blend pot to the thing because it makes sense to do so and my word; what a great modification to make! I used an Emerson No-load pot for the job and it indeed does what it says on the tin.
I'm back to liking the thing to play and find myself picking it up more often than any of the others I have around me currently - my eldest daughter is back home temporarily and my "studio" space has been severely limited!
So that's what's been occupying my time of late; my Corsair has hit a road bump or two in that I cannot make blocks that fit the factory bridge holes tightly enough for my purposes and I think I may have to get professional help to square up and level all of the Kahler routs and have blocks CNC'd for it. Other than that, I have 2 of the required pickups; a DiMarzio Texas Special neck pickup, a SD Hot rails middle pickup and am acquiring a Kent Armstrong P90 Convertable fir the bridge. A Schaller 3D is yet to be bought as are Gotoh tuners....
...slowlee, slowlee, catchee monkee!!

You've got some righteous electronics there Johnny me lad, I'm envious!
Looking forward to seeing it all come together!

Yep the Tonerider stuff is very decent.
What picks came out of the Strat, bar magnet type?
I've tried loads of manufactures Strat pickups. Tonerider are up there indeed.
This guy in Russia does some good gear also and at reasonable prices.
Used 3 different sets so far and all sound good.
https://www.priborapickups.com/
Come in a neat little box.
Also used this guy until he got famous and so did his prices. Good stuff though. Used to pay half of today's prices back in his early days.
Here' some Toneriders from a '60's Squier Classic Vibe Strat.
Usually put a pull/push switch on the second tone of a Strat, switches the bridge pickup on in any position. Can have all three on if you want. Still also acts as a tone.
Good mod.

Re: Tonerider pickups.... and other stuff.
Those Priboras sound good, but how do you keep track of 8,000 manual windings without nodding off?
Or buggering it all up in tangles?
Better than counting sheep!

I’d have to look at them, Damian - and I’m on my way to Perth, WA, so it won’t be for a day or two!! I
