Concord III for sale - your opinion
Dear Westoners,
There is a 1983 Concord III for sale near my place and I am considering buying it.
It's in a very good shape, top of the Concord line, however the seller is asking for a pretty hefty 450 euros.
Thing is anything remotely "vintage" is a bit more expensive in France than in the US, as vendors here don't mind sitting on theirass products for years on end.
How much would you put in such an instrument?
It has had a set-up + fret dressing recently.
Is it really on par with some of the more famous Japanese strat-like guitars of the same era?
Or more like a fusion of different instruments?
Really looking for a strat sound these days.
Thanks for your input.

Re: Concord III for sale - your opinion
Hi TailGunner,
As described in the Homepage, it's impossible to definitely assess the "value" of any instrument.
The condition, rarity, country where it is sold, all have an effect on pricing. It all boils down to what you are willing to pay. The best thing is to review previous sales where/when available.
As far as sound, the S/S/S setup should mimic/emulate the "strat" sound you seek.
Generally speaking 450 Euros is worth 450 Euros and 450 US is worth 450 US.
When you cross borders, it often distorts the 'perceived' value.

Re: Concord III for sale - your opinion
Thank you for your feedback.
I am not asking for a value, we all know there is not enough documented trade to build an ask/bid price on limited run production. Westone is not even featured in the guitar price guide (well there is a short description of the brand history but no product specified), it tells a lot.
I am specifically asking people here how much they would be ready to pay for this specific guitar if it did show up on their local market.
Just a number.

Re: Concord III for sale - your opinion
In all honesty, we are not merchants and everyone here are enthusiasts of the brand.
I strongly believe that anyone would want to pay as little as they can for instruments that can be salvaged, restored, played, enjoyed and/or collected: all depending on each individuals liking and financial resources.

Re: Concord III for sale - your opinion
450 Euros is a hefty price for basically a Strat copy from Japan made in the eighties.
A fine guitar the Concord is but think the earlier ones with the larger painted headstock would be more collectable as a Westone model at that price. Price is a little heavy.
I own an early Concord III and it's a well made one piece neck guitar(maple) and they sound/play fine.
There's so many models of Strat's these days and replacement pickups to be had.
At that price I'd be looking for one...
...but that's up to you.

Thank you Westbone, that's pretty much my view of it too.
This older model is priced @200euros on the market here, it looks great and all, but it's down in Pays Basque, local pickup only, far far away...

Sound wise too?
It definitely has a more telecaster vibe from the looks of it.
I had no plans to go surfing before may, but they say the water is not that cold right now...
Will update you guys when I get it.

Re: Concord III for sale - your opinion
So did you buy it ?
I purchasee a red one (1982) for the same price in Paris in october. I thought it was a little expensive but now I don't regret at all buying it ! It is a great player.
I especially love the big neck with wide fretboard.
In the beginning I had a problem with the tuning stability after wide bends and tremolo use. I switched to locking tuners but the culprit was actually the tremolo. I lubed it and tightened the six screws. Now it is fine.
