Geez, you'd think he'd at least use a black coloured jack plate or something with a duller finish, eh? That chrome thing looks bad on that beautiful guitar, and doesn't even cover the damage.

I presume that the amplifier cable wasn't anchored behind the bottom strap button and somebody tripped on it and ripped the original output jack all to hell.

On a solid body guitar there's usually not too much damage done to the guitar, but on a semi like this it can be extreme.

When I was daft enough to play my ES330 on stage or in bars(!) I always made sure the cable was looped around the lower bout strap pin and sandwiched between the body and the strap before jacking in. Still do it with every guitar, even if playing by myself in the music room. Just a good habit to get into.

Doesn't help my playing but saved the guitar from potential damage.

I have a APII SB series bass that, that happened to when I lent it to a (still good, somehow) friend.  Used a turned over pickup selector switch ring, its not beautiful but it works

you're right though the solution on that rainbow is ugly
if I had any use for a semi I'd almost be tempted at that price and 90 odd minutes up the road

I guess the bottom line is that it's playable.
And that's what having a guitar is for after all.

Not everyone has the knowledge or ability or the means to fix things the optimum way.
