Re: X390CB Project
God, yes - I'd love to have at that!! I even have all of the goodies here to make it all better again!
Shipping it across will be bloody expensive, and the safety of the guitar uncased is quite the issue for me!
I know, I know.., I could buy a case from Glasgow and do it that way but really.... can't be fagged!

Nasty crack there Damian, but looks pretty "clean" and should close up OK. I think you'll spend more time on the refinishing than making her structurally sound again.
What is it by the way?

Yamaha SL800S made at Fujigen.
Had a nice surprise pickup at the bridge. DCJ...Duncan Custom Juarez(Maricela Juarez) custom shop manager.
Most of the other models SL380-700 where made at Matsumoku. Late 70's early 80's

Re: X390CB Project
This is what it looked like when found. Had been in a garden shed for years. When plugged in as is all was working fine, no scratchy pots and the press down coil taps were fine, amazing. The bridge saddles have rotted away.
Re: X390CB Project
How has it coped with the dampness of the average shed? It doesn't look like it has faired too badly.

Re: X390CB Project
Honestly, what Neanderthal puts a nice guitar in a friggin' garden shed? It's incredible, the things people do.

Well as you see the saddles are crud.
The knobs just fell to pieces.
Pickup poles are rusty.
The dust is hard set from damp.
Is worse than it looks in the photos.
Apparently the guy passed on and the house was full of guitars. The family got an appraiser in for all the good stuff. Never saw any of the gear unfortunately.
A friend of a friend was working there and the shed was full of damaged gear. The workers grabbed a guitar each as they were destined for the trash. No idea what else there was.
Re: X390CB Project
Love a good resto. I find that I feel the closest to the guitars that I resto.
How's the neck, any frets high/loose from swelling?
