Have you ever come across two guitars that look quite similar but have no relation to each other? Well, I've just bought a very nice Washburn acoustic guitar, and I noticed some similarities when I put it next to my Westone Session II, especially the headstock and body shape.
They were made at about the same time, but not in the same place (Westone 86 MIJ, Washburn 87 MIK). There are other not-so-obvious differences too, such as the scale length and the wood type.

Looks like a very nice player David, but I'm not seeing quite the degree of similarity you do.

Aside from the fact that they are both single cuts, to my eye the body on the Washy has a sharper "waist" and the neck and head stock are quite different.

IIRC Mats did make some Washburns but I don't know when. I guess it's possible there could be some post-Mats components in this?

Yeah, I know they're not exactly the same, but there are some other similarities; the neck joins the body at the 14th fret and the cutaway at the 16th. There is a slight arch in the top of the Washburn, oddly. It all means that I can swap from one to the other with ease. This particular model is called the 'Tanglewood', the top model of the 'Festival' series. They were made in Japan from 79 to 84/85, then in Korea up to 94.
