Re: 'Rising Sun' in Canada
Um, thanks Pete. I am getting uncomfortably close to the light at the end of the tunnel, but don't rub it in eh?
Yeah, this is the only time I've ever seen a Rising Sun model here.
Crap, always happens when I'm flat broke, and she'd make a great addition to my Specky collection.
Don't have an LX either.

Re: 'Rising Sun' in Canada
Yeah, Pete... stop telling Barry how old he is! Meanie!
Don't see that graphic very often at all; I can only remember one or perhaps 2 ever on the open market. It's only the meatball graphic that's interesting, as such; it's just an LX underneath, though I have to say, an LX in pretty fair nick, eh!!

Re: 'Rising Sun' in Canada
Can't emphasise how much I want a flag LX, I love the switching and pup config of the Dim IV but the shape kills it, a spectrum shape with that config is a perfect match!

Re: 'Rising Sun' in Canada
That was another reason that prompted me as well.
I'm comfortable with the switching.
(except the pup selector.. I'll have to move it to the lower horn.. )
It's actually very different sounding than the D-IV's much brighter and less sustain.
Very noticeable as I use several 'Talent Enhancers and Simulators'.
I guess my ear was trained on the D-IV's so I'm expecting the same sound.
Will post pics soon.
Thanks guys.

Re: 'Rising Sun' in Canada
"Bright" is the definitive word for the Spectrum sound alright.DimensionIV-addict wrote:...It's actually very different sounding than the D-IV's much brighter and less sustain...
I sort of felt that there could be a difference in the sustainability. Looks like those pointy thingy's serve as big tuning forks. I get the same sort of resonance and liveliness from the Urchin.
I wonder if Tom Presley and Toshi Ohwa factored that in, or was it a happy by-product?
By the way, when you get a moment to look...MMK45's under the hood, yes?

Re: 'Rising Sun' in Canada
Very cool Steve!!! Those are certainly rare birds.
The brighter tone is interesting. My Dynasty's sounds different to my Spectrums, too. Shape matters somehow? I've heard Tom Presley say that phase was an issue when dealing with the wild shapes?

Re: 'Rising Sun' in Canada
Nice one, Barry - thank you!
Certainly interesting that it was only available in 1985 - as was the GT - and that the factory thought that the Rising Sun was a good idea for a graphic!! I mean, it looks great just as a graphic but there's a whole weight of history in that image....
Anyway, beyond all that, thanks for sharing this one, Steve; good to see the flag still being waved, excuse the pun!!

Re: 'Rising Sun' in Canada
Pun taken.
We all take pride in our Japanese instruments, this one just says it a little louder by declaring it's origin.
