Can anybody tell me more about this ?

Takamine GX200

MIJ mid 80s

apparently not too many made

they also made the GX100 and the GZ300 but conflicting stories as to how many or even where they were manufactured

Ive had it about 6 yrs but would like to know more

Hope someone has some information on these, as I have one as well. Like you I have not found too much information on them either

  I've never even seen a solid body Takamine before, just acoustics.

I notice the current Takamine "G" series shown on their site is all acoustic too.
Just speculating here, but could the "X" in GX200 stand for "EXperimental"?

What is the rough spec?, pickups, sound, playability, quality?

Thanks for the link Barry - I had seen that when I googled but for some reason that page would never open for me but today it did  

As far as quality goes I think its pretty well spot on - well built with a nice finish. I was originally attracted to it because it was advertised as a neck through but after removing the neck pick-up it does appear to be a long tenon style joint but with that sexy cut away heel. I have a Westbury standard with dimarzios in it but this doesn't have quite that output. I pulled a few guitars out to do some comparisons and I would say the closest match sound wise would be my Thunder 1. The only complaint I have with this guitar is that the bridge doesnt seem to be a great match for the neck profile - When I get my hi and low Es where I want them I seem to get some buzz on the D and G ( neck relief is set correctly). I am thinking of getting some graphite saddles and filing them down to suit my needs (would love to hear from you eyebulger if yours has the same problem)

I would still love to find out which particular Japanese factory these came from

 I did a couple of years ago - they don't have any info

I'm assuming they were out sourced but to who/whom seems to be a secret

Ooooooohhhh, mate!!! Liking those Takamine pointies, eh! I don't wonder that they are, indeed, rare and, to these eyes, anyway, uber desirable!!

Never even knew that they existed; only knew about the rather staid designs like Don has.... these things are freaking insane, man!!

Make my Raider and Vantage Invader look positively demure and coy, eh! I like 'em!! I'd be prepared to bet that the build quality and playability are second to none; love to know what they sound like at full throttle!!

GREAT SCORE! I had a satin finished g- series Takamine accoustic/electric w/out a pick guard & it was a Beautiful guitar all arround Never lost tune...ever... I must say, that's a Beautiful axe.makes me wonder, how much that cost? I'd love 2 stumble across that takamine.RARE I'm guessing
