String choice is largely a player preference on the majority of guitars. Whatever works for your style.

That said, the rule of thumb is 9 gauge on Fender scale guitars (25.5") and 10 gauge on Gibson scale (24.75"). Generally speaking most players will find 9's too sloppy on a shorter scale and some may find 10's too "stiff" for comfortable string bending on a longer scale.
Of course there are always exceptions, and exceptional players (e.g. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Billy Gibbons, etc) who happily bucked this wisdom.

As for Concord, there are both long and short scale versions available.

what about for the concord 1s? from around 1982? would you know what the factory string gauge sizes were for those guitars?

would any intonation or adjustments of the neck be involved when putting on new strings for these guitars?

since i'm a newbie when doing string changes and guitar setups, wondering what would be the closest to the factory setting for these guitars before replacing the strings if possible?

As far as I am aware the Concord I is a 24" scale.
I have no idea how it came from the factory but my best guess would be 10's.

String gauge has no effect on intonation. The saddles are either correctly adjusted or not, regardless of what you use.

I'd use 10's on a longer scale and 9's on a shorter scale.

I don't think it much matters what was there originally, they just used whatever seemed to fit the scale of the guitar.

Reason why is because they didn't put as much thought into strings then as they do now.  Down tunings were not as widely popular as they are today, artist guitars were not as widely produced, so no guitars (that I know of) came with special gauge strings to specifically suit a particular model (other than perhaps jazz guitars using heavier strings or special situations like that).

So your Concord probably came with 10's if it's a Fender scale or 9's if it's a Gibson scale.

My 0.02c is that it doesn't matter what were on it OEM; you put whatever strings you favour on it, tweak the neck if you've gone heavy and play the nuts off it!
