'90 Spectrum DLX Tremelo problems
Hey guys,
So my dad has this 1990 Spectrum DLX (all black hardware, you know how it is) and its in horrible condition. I've already taken off the neck, taken care of the threats, and fixed some rotten tuning pegs, but I've got a problem for my next step.
The tremolo master is completely ruined.
I know its a cheap part and a common problem (http://forum.westoneguitars.net/t3292-so-i-got-this-crappy-mik-spectrum-dlx-okay?highlight=spectrum) but how do y'all recommend going about this? I can give pics if that would help
Thanks in advance!

Re: '90 Spectrum DLX Tremelo problems
The Deluxe in the catalogue has a licensed Floyd Rose copy; you're saying that yours has a Bendmaster?? Cool!!
Anyway, they're not as bad as people make them out to be - in fact, I quite like mine - once you know the tricks to setting them up!
Cleaning them up should be no major; take it off the guitar, strip it down after taking photos of it for later re-assembly and hook into the bits with a fine bronze brush, or a rag and some white spirits,or whatever Damian suggests - he'll be along directly!!
Yeah... pics wouldn't hurt, eh?!

If it is wrecked, then follow the links in that thread you quoted and acquire a nice new GFS one, perhaps??

I guess. I just didn't know if anyone had a cheaper alternative, if it would be better to go to a fixed bridge setup, or what. He's not attatched to the tremolo but I'd like to keep it close to original. If you can't tell, I've never really had to work on one of these before, so treat me like a total newbie lol.
Thanks for all the help so far!

Re: '90 Spectrum DLX Tremelo problems
Well, I've got a NOS sustain block for a Bendmaster FT trem here; I wonder if that will fit?
I'll go out and measure it and we'll take it from there....

Didn't Arthur (MortarMan) have a similar problem with a crumbling sustain block in a Phoenix recently?

Just found a post on the gibson forums entitled "Help! - Epi 635i - Broken bridge block - Floyd Rose tremolo (Can't post links for 6 more days.)
Thats the exact one in mine. looks like my best bet is to go with the replacement floyd rose. So i guess thats what ill do. Ill keep posting if there are any more problems. Thanks!

Bit of a mongrel that!
Who knows what patents were pending back then.
Probably just stuck on what they had in Korea at the time.
Try these???

Awesome! I had seen some others reference that kit with a positive attitude, so its the best option as it also has a higher quality lock nut.
