locking - Spectrum SX Locking Nut Empty Spectrum SX Locking Nut

Post by BrianP Fri Dec 26, 2014 3:24 pm

The thread on the central hole of my locking nut is almost stripped, I can only just get the screw to hold when I tighten the clamping plates.  The thread on the screw is fine, so it is the thread on the locking nut body itself that is the problem.

I know spares are difficult to get hold of.  Has anyone ever managed to repair the thread on a locking nut?  I could try re-tapping it but I'm not sure there is enough material there to form the M4 thread.

Thanks,

B

Hi Brian and welcome.

There's a couple threads here showing exactly how to insert heli-coils, can't post em just now as I'm on a mobile 📱
Search in the technical forum.
I've done this myself easily, and if I can do it anyone can!

Corsair,

Thanks for the offer, but I'm in Scotland. I know the kits are available for about £20 online, I'll get one ordered after the holidays.

As it turns out I've just stripped out the threads on my X300cr (ebay listed with 1 day left!!) during its pre postage setup,  so I have to get out my heli coil kit and go at it,  Brian if you want I can send up the kit when I'm done, just send it back when you're done?  It'll save you £20  Smile

If this was a one-off I would suggest that the Christmas spirit is in the air....but goodwill gestures like this happen week-in week-out on this forum.

I doff my cap to you all  Smile
