Will all those Ebay Westone Dismantlers please stand up!
Who in this forum Is sick and tired of seeing West one guitars dismantled into bodies ,necks ,and bridges when most all of them could be repaired? Please speak freely about this

Although very handy if folks need the odd part.
I've parted a few out. Guitars that I bought for parts that were needed to complete other near mint one's.
Quite a few of the bits have gone to members on here.
So one guitar(parted) can make many others complete.
Which is not a bad thing.

Ok I've give you that about fixing near mint but ebayer's dissemble good guitars just to make more profit , seen more than once. Westone are not fender mim starts and their parts are few and far far between. DYNASTY SAID THAT
Re: Will all those Ebay Westone Dismantlers please stand up!
So if you needed a locking nut, knobs, actives, tuners a neck or a body you wouldn't be greatfull to find them on ebay??? or alike.
Re: Will all those Ebay Westone Dismantlers please stand up!
Sure 'nuff, if yer geetar has been run over by Santa and all his bloody reindeer, but that's after the fact.
The question is, why rip apart a perfectly good functioning guitar just to sell the parts? Criminal.

Re: Will all those Ebay Westone Dismantlers please stand up!
As much as I dislike seeing perfectly usable instruments parted out, one or two parts from such have been a godsend to this kiwi....
.... not sure where I stand but if you own the thing, then you can do what you like with it, eh!!

Re: Will all those Ebay Westone Dismantlers please stand up!
If it wasn't for stripped out westones I'd still be stuck with crappy strat knobs on my thunders and ill fitting wilkinson bridges on a concord, non original pickups and Chinese junk tuners!
Sell one playable guitar or have 5 or 6 made playable instead... earning a few ££ extra along the way?
One mustn't think the Westone brand any more exclusive than other brands eh?

Re: Will all those Ebay Westone Dismantlers please stand up!
So I had been after a Thunder for some time. Got hold of a partially stripped one, maybe it had been dismantled years ago.
Black body and neck, including pickups and tuners, but minus electronics and the bridge.
Bought in a Gotoh bridge and fettled it up. Played it for a while, but I had always hankered after an ash body one. They always seemed to sell for a high price though
So then an ash body, and neck came up, plus an original brass bridge. No pickups, or electrics.
So I got these BIN, and with the parts from the old battered black one, I made myself a great ash bodied complete Thunder 1
So I put the old battered black body and neck on ebay with the Gotoh bridge.
Got some bloke slagging me off with his messages about "parting out perfectly good guitars".
It wasn't, it was something I rescued with other parted out parts.
Sorry, but the parted out guitars, can mean you can fix up things that someone else pulled apart years ago.
Heck how are you going to find spare MMk45 without folk parting em out?
Or a spare Westone neck to replace one that's damaged?
People part out everything from Squiers up to high end Gibbys and Fenders.
Didn't Clapton part out half a dozen 50s Strats and make a couple of good ones out of them?
They're bolt-together guitars, so it means that they can use other guitars parts as spares.
As long as its not blatant profiteering, I don't have a problem here.

Re: Will all those Ebay Westone Dismantlers please stand up!
Fair enough in the case described. But I see all too many perfectly good guitars, Westies included, purposely dismantled in order to maximize the overall profit.
You can confirm this easily when you see the damn parts listed practically side by side in the ebay listing. You know they all came from the same guitar, and if you were to buy the parts, the sum cost would be far more than the normal selling price of the whole instrument.
That's just vandalism.

Re: Will all those Ebay Westone Dismantlers please stand up!
I've seen complete Westones parted out, totalled up the final selling prices and found they often fetch the equivalent price of a complete guitar on more than one occasion.
Barry can you honestly say you have never benefitted from a "part-out" before?

I believe that yes it's it the fan! But I'm with Barry on this one,the idea of killing a great guitar to make a extra buck is absurd

Re: Will all those Ebay Westone Dismantlers please stand up!
I've bought a few MMK45 pickups on both ebay and kijiji, but I can't say for sure if they had been "parted out". More likely swapped out. And i've been the recipient of brass knobs and a switchmaster from kind forum members. Don't know where they came from though.Sgt. Re: Will all those Ebay Westone Dismantlers please stand up!
Has this veered away from the parting-out discussion into the realms of redneck nonsense?
The video adds nothing to what could have been an interesting exchange of ideas; yes, I'm aware it was probably embedded as a touch of humour, but to whinge about parting out guitars and then using video of twats with guns even as a joke seems a little counter productive!

Re: Will all those Ebay Westone Dismantlers please stand up!
Thank God there is some people with a sense of humor
Re: Will all those Ebay Westone Dismantlers please stand up!
FFS, man.... if you read my post, you'll see that I do, in fact, realise that the video is an attempt at humour! However, given that the subject of this thread is the parting out of perfectly good guitars, then - IMO - it just ain't funny, and made even less funny by current firearm related events in the US; the accidental shootings of adults by 2 pre schoolers and the twat in Florida who intends to have pistol practice on his front lawn.... and the local federales say that it is, in fact, legal to do so!!!
Give me strength....
Anyway, I reckon this has done its dash.... let's all move on....

No, nobody called you a redneck. Read the post.Dynasty wrote:Corsair ,sir is it against the rules to to add a little humor in a blog/ room? Concerned, because you just called me a redneck, Right???
And no, "humour" isn't against the rules here.
But irrelevant, off topic and tedious repetition is not helpful, and contributes nothing to the discussion. Yeah Barry said that
