One sweaty fingerboard

Geez, this is 'king filthy. One of the worst I've ever seen.
Could this be a job for 'horse toothbrush'...yes!

You wonder how in hell anyone could play anything on that. What goes through their fool head anyway?

I've seen quite a few nasty fingerboards come into the shop too, and some of them make you want to gag they're so awful. But I believe this one wins the "Puke Prize" for sure. Lucky you!

So, quit horsing around and get on with it!

I'm ashamed to say that it doesn't look *that* bad to me 

I'm not at all concerned with the black streaks, that's just the "ebonized" paint wearing off. Looks bad but not a real problem.

No, it's that toxic white waste build up against the frets that has me wincing. If you look closely you can see little critters waving back at you!

It looks like crystallized salt and fingerjam. Not that I tasted it. 

The underside of the neck has reacted as well. Plus the fingerboard.

There is virtually no fret wear though.

S'pose some folks sweat is obviously more salt/acid...

The best tool I've bought in a long time is 'Horse'.
A toothbrush called 'Horse' as it's now affectionately known...
This thing makes short work of many cleaning jobs on a guit.
An excellent item.Should have got one years ago.

Dang that is nasty.   I think I would have removed the frets (even if they are in good shape) and planed the board to it's natural color and be sure to get rid of all of what that player sweat out, or plain it and restain for the cheesy "try to make it look like ebony when it's really rosewood" look

Know what you mean but this guitar doesn't warrant that amount of work.

I wouldn't fancy shaking hands with the previous owner! Still, at least all the oily muck may have stopped the wood from drying out. Some people have VERY corrosive sweat; I used to be in a band with just such a guy. His strings were always in a state. I could always tell if he had picked up my guitar and played it, if only for a few minutes. I always had to replace the strings afterwards.
 

Sounds like my 19 year old. But in his case, he doesn't wash his %^$#* hands before playing! I can always tell when he's been fiddling with my gear. ugh!

Acetone rag, never fails and it evporates before it has time to do any damage to unseat frets etc.

Brushed up fine...good ole Horse..

Very decent example in the end.
Could do with a heart transplant though but I'll leave as is.
