Spectrum GT Custom in Red/Blue crackle
Ok, Westone gurus. Came across a beautiful red/blue crackle Spectrum GT custom today and will probably go back and get it tomorrow. My questions are, were these Korean made or out of the custom shop? Looking at the '89 catalog makes it sound like the custom finishes came out of St Louis. Were they Korean made parts assembled here in the US? Also, who produced the Korean guitars? Samick? Any and all info would be greatly appreciated guys.

Yeah, I read those before I asked. I did my research before posting. It doesn't really matter to me one or another who manufactured it, I was just curious since I know most Korean guitars were Samick made. I'm just trying to educate myself a little since that was the first Westone I've ever actually played and loved it.

Well, i figured the best way to learn was to get it. It's gonna go straight to the luthier for a fret dressing and set up but I couldn't pass up on it.

Looking forward to seeing your GT, hope it comes back from the luthier soon. Nothing says hair metal like a crackle.

From the masthead above:...Just curious, why don't the Korean made Westones seem to get much love on here?

Several members own MIK Westies, and they do pop up from time to time and are discussed. Some are referenced on our information web site along with a handful of other non-Mats instruments. But this site is primarily dedicated to the MIJ models manufactured by Matsumoku, as advertised!

Wow, so the rest of my post was edited out for asking a question?

Sorry, I'm not sure what you're referring to. I simply answered your question. I'm not aware of anything being intentiionally edited.
John, anything changed?

Re: Spectrum GT Custom in Red/Blue crackle
This is an odd thread. I've only been a member for a few months, but in that time, I can't remember anyone saying anything negative about members' Westones based on the country of manufacture (aside form a few threads that mentioned the construction problems from some of the Korean-manufactured guitars... fair enough- fretboards separating from necks is nasty business). I have yet to see any of the mods or long-time members call out anyone by saying,"Hey, you have a made-in-Korea Westone. I'm changing your post (or raging at you)!"
Sadly, that kind of behavior does exist on other forums to which I belong. This forum, refreshingly, is not one of them.

Thanks for that!

If Korean built guitars are good enough for Su Meng to eloborate on a great Doobie Brothers tune, playing on a Korean guitar, who am I to complain? Times change. Became a viral video many years ago alleady, still a classic performance! : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IN21lcvIsvM As for the Doobie Brothers - Listen To The Music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJqk2yWUGTM In case you didn't notice. Su Meng's rendition of Paganini's Caprices are epic and there's a video of a masterclass where she' speeds up worth watching. I'm listening to Shostakovitch a lot these days but hey any good funky guitar playing turns me on instantly! And really, never played one but boy they look and sound georgious! : Official Site
