Vantage MIK
Picked this up yesterday.
1992 Vantage 828G MIK by Samick, set neck, 24 fret, coil tap. Gonna see how well she rocks tonight!
Not much info on this particular model, maybe because it was early on? All the others with similar looks (818) have the Floyd Rose or some sort of tremolo, with bolt on necks. As someone that's not much of a trem guy, I like the gibby style bridge and tail.
Sorry for the crappy pic.

Re: Vantage MIK
Some of the post-Mats MIK instruments were extremely well made. Not "quite" a Mats but very nice nonetheless. I certainly love my '96(?) AriaProII TA60.
I'm not a huge SUPER-STRAT-DIG-MY-BIG-FRIGGIN'-HORNS sorta guy but I can appreciate the build quality. The headstock still says "Avenger" to me, however, the rest feels very late 80's Westone. Quite a mish-mash of design elements.

Re: Vantage MIK
My love for this guitar is like a red red rose, and I feel a little T'horn'y.
I agree, I'm pretty sure this must've been fairly early on after the move to Korea. Also, comparing the model number font size and appearance, this one is different from every other similarly styled guitar I can find.
The neck construction is so strange to me - it's joined at about two locations, one near the body and another one about 3 quarters of the way up the neck towards the headstock. I'll send some close ups because it just looks so crazy.
Also, just wondered how thick a typical 'highly figured' top usually is?
Barry are there some pics up of the TA60?

Re: Vantage MIK
That's a scarf joint, up the neck there.
One way to tell the deference between Jap and Korean models.
Here's a Korean jobbie. Well made solid guitar.

Probably find that's a veneer on yours.
Looking at around a 1/4" on top line stuff.
Here's a TA 65

Wow Barry, that is gorgeous. I have to say, my favourite of the colours is that dark brown, walnut colour. Sooooooooo nice.
Sigh.
