I am virtually finished the restoration of my westie - all switches replaced bridge buffed sides sanded (can't seem to post pics check a.to.g.music on Facebook) looks fantastic and better than I could have hoped. My only problem is the active circuit. I have replaced battery terminals checked routes checked grounds all the wiring seems spot on but dead as a dodo. I can hear some noise if the active is on and my amp is cranked up on 10. I can only surmise that the card is dead. Are replacements around? Anyone had simaler problems. Any work around?

Check that any of the resistors etc.on the circuit board have not been bent over and are shorting it out.

Also that the active on/off switch is ok.

Yeah I've been through the board can't see a short. The switch is brand new :-( gutted as its the last piece to the puzzle. The active has never worked but I thought it was down to the old switch and Battery connections being corroded. It never bothered me as I used the old switch like a kill switch playing Rage against the machine lead licks in my misspent youth...I've never got to here the active cranked and was kinda lookin forward to it. I've even checked the resistance on the B.O.T potentiometer and that's fine. Any budding electronic wizzes any idea if it can be rebuilt somehow?

It's not an active gain Pete but a treble/bass boost as on version 2 and 3 etc.
Although some version 2's had active gain. They kind of lapped over.

The boost circuits are crap in my opinion, sound terrible.
On the other hand they're fine on the bass.

Now the active gain is 'king marvelous..... Very Happy

Have you tried replacing the chip.
Jack plug socket to battery connections ok?

B.O.T. Sounds like you have the t/b boost circuit.

I presume it's the treble boost because of the potentiometer having the central position. Can't believe a boost circuit needs 18v across it though.
The connection back to the Jack is fine, wouldn't know what to replace the chip with any tips? Do you have a boost circuit I could use. Will send a pm when I can get on a pc ( mobile version is not as good)

Yeah defo version 2 wiring diagram, I have crossed the switch on number 2 as shown. All is working good with no batteries in sounds immense. With Batteries in I flick the switch and nothing happens. I was just exclaiming at the juice it needs to run the circuit as imo it's allot when you consider most Ernie ball music man active basses only need 9v ant this guitar needs 18v!

Without batteries, obviously the passive works but when you flick the active switch, anything?

Cheers westbone you have been a fountain of knowledge. Glad I found this forum or my westie would have been a Pipe dream project. From the advice on cleaning the bridge to what chip is required in a circuit you guys are top.
Even if I never get the boost working its awesome on passive. The guitar has its first gig in many years tonight takin it to Fleetwood for a rock gig can't wait to smash some tunes on it
