Replacement concord pups
I have successfully found new pickups for my 82 concord II in iron gear pig irons in neck & middle and dimarzio fs 1 in bridhe, really happy with this setup!
Now it's time to find new single coils for the 84 concord II, I want it to sound different from the '82 but not sure whether to go hot or "vintage" and my budget is not too great, so.... Have you guys found interesting sc' s at reasonable prices?
Are the Mexican fender 60's decent?
Wilkinsons?
I think I'm looking at about £50 to splash on em, so whether they be used big names or new lower end options... Any thoughts?

Re: Replacement concord pups
Hey Sarge, you might want to check out "Oil City Pickups Uk" run by a guy called Ash in North London. I have not heard his pickups yet but a couple of luthiers I know are raving about his attention to detail and custom windings.
I will be taking down a couple of non-westies for him to work on very soon. The owner Ash is very personable and happy to discuss your needs, here is the link

Re: Replacement concord pups
Ash is a nice guy. I once bought one of his custom built guitars and he was a pleasure to deal with.

Re: Replacement concord pups
Just a bit of a heads up
When talking with Ash he said if I was not completely happy with the pups I chose, he would be happy to replace them and as he said...to quote
"There is always a market for second hand pickups, no worries"
Which might help you get what you want at the right price

Re: Replacement concord pups
Couldn't afford a full set of the Oil-City pups, though do like the look of them, maybe sometime in the future when there arent so many nice guitars I want to buy eh.
I've gone with the Ironstone Platinum set HERE
Heard plenty good things about them and they were £5 cheaper on their site than their ebay page
with any luck they'll arrive today so I can get cracking with em, (need a little fretwork done while the strings are off too)

Re: Replacement concord pups
Used Ironstone loads of times, good stuff for the price.
Import spacing too.

Re: Replacement concord pups
Good stuff indeed, bright and clear, very low noise on an unshielded concord.
not as hot as I thought they'd be, but certainly no complaints.
Tony from Ironstone is a good guy too, pups come with springs AND the latex tube option, me likey, the cream covers are very cheap looking but the black are sound.
Tapered down the last few frets in remedy to a G string dent in fret 17, took a couple of go's but nailed it eventually.
not played this guitar really since I dropped my Thunder on it
jobs a goodun now, plays, looks AND now sounds lovely.

Re: Replacement concord pups
Concord I and 2 pups are crap anyway.
Way to shrill and thin.
Tried all Ironstone's with good results.
Cranked up brings them to life. Sound fine.Plus they're cheap and improve most cheapo Strat guitars. Some Affinity/Standard Starts play real nice and these certainly do the job on them.
Never tried their humbucker.
