Help selling a Superheadless Empty Help selling a Superheadless

Post by scruplesindisguise Wed Oct 30, 2013 6:45 pm

Hi there,

Firstly, let me just say that I understand that you don't want unestablished users coming on here and selling their goods. I respect that and that's not what I'm here to do. All I'm here to enquire about is what method you guys reckon is the best way to sell a guitar such as a Superheadless. I'm thinking Ebay or Gumtree, but I've never sold anything like this before, and I obviously want to make the best possible sale that I can. It needs some slight refurb., too, so a guide price would help me massively too (though I will take it with a pinch of salt for anybody who is actually after a Superheadless Wink). Many thanks! (And Admin, if you deem this a pointless post, just delete it and I'll move on...)

Cheers!

Might be worth having a look on ebay.  Theres one thats been on there for months.  Might give you an idea on pricing and what is too much.

Woah guys, don't kill me off just yet! I apologise for not getting back to you all sooner. I'm just off to take some pictures. First here's a video of me from many years ago (2008, I think), playing Kansas with the Westone Smile

NOT the best pics in the world, but you get the idea (for now). I will be seeking advice from some local musos regarding its pricing and what not, but let me know what you think Smile

Help selling a Superheadless Empty Re: Help selling a Superheadless

Post by Clive Shakedown Sun Nov 24, 2013 6:06 pm

Hiya Scruples.
Looks very nice in the photos, I think the best advice is to put it on Ebay, stick a sensible reserve on it if you want, and just see how much people are willing to pay, you do need much better photographs though.
There has been a headless on there for a long time, no takers, he's obviously asking too much for it.
The same is true for a Thunder 3 on the same site, way over priced.

Having said all that, if I was selling a bass like yours, I'd expect it to go for between £250 and £350, if I was lucky.

Nice Headless, not many people here like to give estimates and with good cause, but I'm not one of them, I rekon £200 to £250 in todays market is achievable,  good luck

Market's gone very soft indeed on Westones - actually most vintage Japanese guitars, if I'm honest - especially the high end ones, whose realised value has plummeted just recently!!

Thanks all for your replies. I'll bear all of your advice in mind, but the bass needs a bit of work on it here and there which I'm prepared to bring the price down to compensate for. Will look into putting this up soon. Need the money as the missus and I are looking to buy our first home Very Happy

Well, good luck, fella though I have to say that the cash value of the bass at the moment will probably not go that far towards the house deposit!!

Help selling a Superheadless Empty Re: Help selling a Superheadless

Post by scruplesindisguise Tue Mar 11, 2014 5:38 pm

Right, I'm seriously looking into selling this bass guitar now. My only concern is that I can't find a trace of any other plain red Westone Super Headless on the net! If anyone can point me to one I'd really appreciate it.

Feel like I don't know enough about these guitars and don't want to undersell mine!

Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

The page doesn't even list a red one (besides the one with the black stripe (see other image on this page)) being available: http://www.westone.info/cats/1985headless/p4.html.

Any ideas?  confused

Yup.
That, or that old stand by, "Specifications subject to change without notice."

Remember, you're looking at the '85 catalogue there. Possibly made in '86 and was changed? Did we get a serial # on this?

There ya go. 1986 then, likely a spec change.
