Prestige 150 on Ebay
Bet there's a few folks bidding on this not realizing there's no direct replacement for the stop bar.

Re: Prestige 150 on Ebay
If it had been my 'pride and joy' as stated by the seller in another post, I would have bought the replacement bridge that appeared to be available. Using the forum to drum up buyers interest?
Or am I being cynical. Anyhoo I hope it resides with some one with the wherewithal to fix it up.

Wasn't me. Great price for the seller but far more than I was prepared to pay.

Re: Prestige 150 on Ebay
The seller enquired about a tailpiece on here a few weeks ago.
Hope the buyer doesn't think it's your ordinary type (Gibson like)
Still, you could easily stick a Gibbo style on. Wouldn't even see the repair it'd be under the stop tailpiece.

Re: Prestige 150 on Ebay
Just out of interest - and no it wasn't me - how would one go about repairing that broken bridge. just in case it happens to mine.

Re: Prestige 150 on Ebay
I personally would have looked at milling out a channel on the underside and letting in a strengthening rod.

I'd look at (if I had the gear) making one, or getting a mate to make one. Wouldn't LOOK like the original, but it'd do the job!

Re: Prestige 150 on Ebay
Hi
I am a new member and wanted to let you guys know that i just bought the prestige 150 that was up on ebay yesterday with the broken stoptail. I had checked out your discussion before bidding which was really useful - i am aware that its going to be difficult to repair the stoptail, but have been waiting to buy one of these great guitars for a while now, and just sold an orville by gibson so had the cash handy. My reason for bidding is because my first ever electric was a charcoal westone prestige 150, bought second hand in 1983. I kept it for 5 years before trading in for an epiphone sheraton, which was (as we all know) no where near in the class of the prestige (although a great guitar in its own right). I always regretted selling it and have been planning to buy another for a while now. I am going to collect it tomorrow - any ideas on how to go about replacing the stop tail - does anyone know if a standard gibson one would fit? Alternatively, would it be sacrilege to fit a trapeze tailpiece onto it to anchor the strings instead of a stop tail?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions
Cheers
Jon

Re: Prestige 150 on Ebay
You can put a Gibbo style one on but the hole centres for the studs are different, so you will have to plug and redrill.
I personally would rather do this than use a trapeze as it will look like some nutter rock/jazz hybrid bastard.
Just my opinion, but I am 53 and have spend some years coming up with opinions and nearly as many years offering them.
Great guitar and welcome.

Re: Prestige 150 on Ebay
Hi Hoax
Thanks for the tip - I agree with you about the look of a trapeze on a guitar like this , although it would be a way of using the guitar again, at least until its redrilled etc. Thanks for the advice - I'm going to enjoy the challenge of getting her going again! I'll post some pics once she's back in business.

Re: Prestige 150 on Ebay
There was discussion on the forum about someone who had a spare bridge, might be worth a PM, I think it was in the technical section. It would be a shame to have to re drill for a standard tailpiece, I think it would be worth investigating before rushing into this. Enjoy your new P150.

Re: Prestige 150 on Ebay
If you can, by some miracle, find a replacement, terrific. But if you must drill, at least it's a black finish and relatively easy to cover your tracks.
Hate to have to drill into a flame top or summit.

Re: Prestige 150 on Ebay
Thanks Westcoaster and Barry
The guy i bought it from said that he tried to contact the guy with the spare 250 stop tail after he made the offer on this forum but didn't hear back from him, which is why he decided to sell the guitar. I heard about 30 mins ago, while making arrangements to collect the guitar, that he got in touch with him tonight and said he still has the spare and can let him have it! My seller has very kindly agreed to continue with the sale and has passed my details to the 250 stop tail guy! I guess this is some kind of great luck on my part. Hopefully I'll now get to match up the 250 stop tail with my new 150. Any ideas on how to get it re-plated chrome instead of gold?
Thanks again to this forum for making all this possible!

Re: Prestige 150 on Ebay
To be honest, the gold has probably pretty much worn off, shouldn't look to bad on the 150. Great story, getting back the guitar you had years ago. Bet you dont sell it again.

Re: Prestige 150 on Ebay
Oh, its not exactly the same guitar, just same year same model. Good enough for me though - I'm very pleased to be getting another one back in the stable! I'll post a pick of it with the new stop tail when (if) i get hold of it.

Re: Prestige 150 on Ebay
Personally, I'd have a go making one, use brass and maybe get it plated(?).It only has to do the job of holding the strings so precision is not paramount. It would do the job till something better came along.
Nice guitar

Re: Prestige 150 on Ebay
Just polish the gold off. It's chrome/silver underneath.
I also contacted the guy who had the spare and heard nothing neither.
Hope you manage to get it.
If he has the bridge as well give me a shout I need one. If you don't mind.
If it doesn't come through you could get a Gibson style tail piece and drill/grind 4mm off either side and slip it over the posts. Not ideal but will work with no mods. to your treasured guitar.
Good luck.

Re: Prestige 150 on Ebay
Thanks Westbone, I'm going to try that, should save me the agony of making nasty holes in the guitar! I'll let you now if the other tailpiece/bridge comes through.
