Re: X390 Pearl White
Looks like the same exact crack on my 390 which has been great since the repair. I would be more concerned with the "finish" crack by the nut going across the upper part of the neck - no way to tell if that is just finish or wood crack until it is sanded down......hmmm....I'm good at sanding

Re: X390 Pearl White
I'd bid but just can't get around the yellowed look these pearl finishes become. On a different style guitar it would be ok (like an LP or even a strat), but on a shredder super strat like this it just looks out of place to me.

Re: X390 Pearl White
Pity it's cracked through the logo.
Could always use a black one but wouldn't be the same as faux mother of pearl.
Yes chad, pissy yellow.

Re: X390 Pearl White
Anyone every try a bit of compound polish to see if it could be brightened up without getting through all the clear? I've done it on oxidized cars to bring back the original color, but never tried on a guitar

Re: X390 Pearl White
Tried it on a Pearl Thunder II that had a few chips.
It's the actual paint that yellows.
Bloody hard to match up the colour and blend in.
It's like metallic on a car. Better to spray the whole panel.

Re: X390 Pearl White
I'd still bid on it, but still on $$$ hold. If only it would still be there in 3 more weeks.

Re: X390 Pearl White
If that is indeed the colour it is yuckky alright!
The picture was taken indoors though, so maybe it's just an incandescent haze or summit.

Re: X390 Pearl White
I considered bidding on it, but I wasn't so sure about the headstock damage or that near-the-nut crack. I'm not sure what the big deal is about the color, though. Nothing wrong with re-finishing it, eh Sarcaster?

If I were to refinish that one, I would try to stick to the original color. And If I bought that one, the curiuosity of that one crack would definatley make me sand down to see if there is a crack (my guess is yes) in the wood. The headstock repair is probably fine, just a bit ugly since you can see it, but the other crack is the worry.
It's the same exact look my 390DBK had on the headstock which is why I refinshed mine - and I'm thinking about redoing it - not that I am a glutton for punsishment, but me last few have looked so much better that I think I could make it showroom perfect if I redid it now.
If you get it - I'd suggest practicing a refinish on something else - the 390's are very curvy and require a lot more patience

Re: X390 Pearl White
You should see the 350MA - I resumed sanding on that, and that one is looking good. But a great example of having a "finish crack" that only after taking the finish down can you see the real crack. At least it is a simple repair on the 350. I'll have some pics up on that thread this weekend showing some detail

Re: X390 Pearl White
Well, I'm the guy that got it.
I really thought that even with the crack, it would go higher than my bid.
Sarc, should I have them send it to you for refinishing? PM me and let's talk a little.

Congrats!!! I think you got a great deal. I'd have a competent luthier inspect the damage and repair as necessary. I would NOT worry about repainting it. Play and enjoy!
