Re: quantum bass trade
Original '62 Fender Jazz bass?? Only joking, wouldn't part with it but can up the anti to a Thunder IA...?
Re: quantum bass trade
Well thats the thing Sarc, I dont know for sure. I am just kinda testing the water to see if something interesting pops up, I do love the neck on the Quantum and the pickups are punchy as hell....which is good....but it is just NOT a slap-friendly machine and while I'm no Mark King, I do like a lil funk.
I would prefer not to have to post it, but I wont rule it out, maybe one of the local lads might be interested??
the Thunder II could be a clincher

Re: quantum bass trade
Just sold a ThunderII recently as well. Midnight blue one with the set neck. Went to the USA. Nice scale but heavy as hell with the maple body/neck.
I'll have a look through some of the stuff over the weekend and see what other basses are about.

mcbrat wrote:what year is the quantum?
well...the neck suggests 1984, but the previous owner (midhilis) has another westone (forget the model) with the exact same serial number so it may not be a accurate indicator.
here is the bass in question
QUANTUM X850
To quote Westone.info
"First appeared in the Jan 1985 US pricelist at $499.50 including gig bag, (Probably introduced earlier, the serial number on mine indicates that it was made in 1984) in the August 1986 pricelist the price had increased to $529.50 and at this time it was only available in black. Does not appear in the later pricelists"
I can assume its between 84 and 86

Re: quantum bass trade
Sorry Vimes, I just realized that the Thunder IA bass I was thinking of was broken up as grogg needed a neck for his 'flashy' bass project.
It totally slipped my mind, thought I still had one going spare.
How about a Thunder I 6 string? Natural ash finish.

Re: quantum bass trade

No, that was a 6 string.
The bass went to someone else.

On a side note, gosh I've been busy, have I really not been here in two weeks?

Re: quantum bass trade
maybe its just my hands' position, but for me the neck pup is far too close to the neck for slap duties, I'm forever catching the pup and missing the pop.

Re: quantum bass trade
Thanks for that - interesting. Certainy lightweight. I have a Hohner B2A headless thing that must be made of dark matter, as it is nearly 8lbs despite the lack of body.
I was going to offer up one of my basses by way of a trade - a Peavey Fury II, but in the course of picking it up to describe it decided I don't want to part with it yet - it is too nice!!
Back to the drawing board... do you have something in mind or are you looking for a left of field entry?

Re: quantum bass trade
Well to be honest I really want a thunder 2 bass, but I'm not sure if anyone would consider it a fair trade unless the thunder is slightly battle scarred like this quantum is.
Failing that, I will listen to all offers, but really don't want to sell for cash as it will most likely go towards the house bills! leaving me bassless

Re: quantum bass trade
Stick it on ebay, you'll probably get a better price for their quirkiness, they're not all that.
Thunder IA is a much better all round guitar with 'real' bass guitar pickups.
Did you ever repaint the covers?

Ef'ingbay is only a showcase.
The majority of the stuff is sold privately. Phuck their fees.
Going through paypal is just the same as regards cover , gives the buyer some insurance and you still pay for the privilege..

Re: quantum bass trade
True, who wants another Quantum,,,one's more than enough.
Unless to sell on.
Not all they're cracked up to be.
Not all Westone's are the bollox you know.
They made some crap as well. No excuses

Re: quantum bass trade
hold on a mo......the quantum is by no means crap! the neck is wonderful to play...and those pickups might just find their way into a better guitar
just a shame the body is so carelessly designed.
I wonder how the UBC's would sound in the quantum.....
