Yup I think your right, it does look like a crack in the wood, and it seems to have spread up into the corner of the body chamfer.

I don't understand what would do that kind of damage to a guitar ?. It could be paint shrinkage but I doubt it.

Dunno; odd place for a crack in the wood, I'd have thought but it looks awfully regular for a random scratch, eh!!
