Just been looking through the bay and saw for sale a red thunder 1a, I have taken liberty to take some of the sellers information ( as follows ) and would like to know if anyone can confirm this as correct, If so , looks like I got lucky with mine.
(OK This is the Holy Grail of Westone Thunder 1A Guitars as far as rareity goes the RED Thunder 1ar is the rarest. The RED THUNDER 1A was only produced in 1983 and only 100 were produced and ALL were for UK Import only.
Of the 100 RED Thunders that were produced 90 were made with a WHITE Bird Logo and 10 with the GOLD Bird Logo .) ???
Cheers Steve Razz

I've pretty much come to the conclusion that ANYONE (save Tom P.) who is claiming knowledge of production numbers for specific models is trying to sell you something.

Ask him to provide a link to his source or shut his pie hole. I have tried chasing down at least a dozen claims like this on Electra, Westone, Memphis, Joo-Dee, Palmer and I can't remember what else.

IT NEVER PANS OUT...

The gold logo only appears on '82 and very early '83's and then it was 'script'

Looks like a normal whitish logo yellowed with age. It's a bit rusty up the headstock end.
Prepare the sound from the ash bodies as opposed to the painted maple(red and black)

Think this guy gives it a lot of Ballarney. Shippings bloody expensive. Nothing rare about this.

It's also a bit on the tall side for a starting bid.

Corsair, the numbers were not mine, they are from a seller on ebay, the version I have started the post with is a very scaled down version of what this seller is quoting, my main reason for the question was if these figures are correct, then I netted my "alleged" very rare red Thunder 1a for a great price, 120 gbp. was just curious.
Cheers Steve.

Not rare, and yours was still a pretty sharp price, given the market fluctuations at the minute...

Thanks for the info, the reality is when I got my red westone, I was actualy wanting the wood finish job, but always got outbid, I still would like one of the wood finish models, they look fantastic, but it is fair to say the red one has really grown on me and since changing the pups, it's never out of my hands, rare or not, it is a definite keeper.
Cheers Steve
