Well now, since this seller is not too far away from me I contacted him to see if I might pick them up. The answer was a semi-committed, "Arrangements can be made for the item to be picked up."

I placed two bids, neither one met the reserve; the last one was USD$125. So now my question to the congregation is, do I pursue this or fahgettaboutit? I'd like to have them in either one of 2 Spectrums that are lumbered with UBC's, or as a replacement for a bum bridge pup in the Vantage 'Entertainar', BUT I don't know if it's worth bags of money to do it.

I've got the impression that this is gonna be an expensive auction. Evil or Very Mad

Barry

MMK 45's are good, but they ain't triple figure $ good. Dimarzios are still pretty cheap on your side of the pond. I would use them as they can be period correct, were used in Matts guitars, and sound as good as MMK's in my view.

Personally, I wouldn't chase them any further.

Agreed Graham. Don't intend to! Cheers.

And I don't gots no 75's neither! Razz
The 45's are great pups alright, but I think we've talked them up so much in these forums that they've now taken on mystical/magical status that's way out of proportion to the reality.

The only real impetus to grab these things is in the pursuit of restoring (or upgrading) with original Mats parts. Practically speaking, and as Graham says, there are equally decent (new) pups out there for less money. You can rock your socks off using GFS's or SD's, etc. just as well. In short, we've shot ourselves in the proverbial foot on these things. Neutral
