To buy before Xmas?
Ok, so I got a line on a guitar (non westone) that I have wanted for ever. About 100 of them made. For sale a CL for $350. Last couple on ebay went in the 1500-2000 range. I have a friend in the area that could check it out and ship it to me. Why couldn't this happen on Dec 26th?
I pointed it out to my gal hoping she may get it for me (she already got me back my old PRS that I missed for years), but not sure she will go for it.
This guitar shows up on ebay about as often as a 350MA, so imagine a 350MA on your radar at $350.
Ugh

Sometimes a little honesty in a relationship can work wonders. Don't be coy, just tell your girl that you would really love the mystery guitar for Christmas. If she says that she has already bought you, socks, slippers and aftershave just tell her to shove them and buy yourself the guitar anyway.
Either way, its a win/win situation as you get the guitar.
I am always happy to give relationship advice.

Re: To buy before Xmas?
Hoax - I showed her the link to the guitar last night subtle hint I know, but had to be done

Re: To buy before Xmas?
Oh man Sarc, you need to go after that thing, whatever it takes!!! Time to pull out the big guns baby, no mercy. I agree with Hoax, it's a delicate operation of which showing her the link is merely Phase 1.
Operation New Guitar:
1. Show link to said Wife (already accomplished).
2. Intermittantly view link yourself in a conspicuous area. Whilst viewing link, allow her to overhear you marveling to yourself over the rarity and awesomeness of said guitar, and how you've been looking for it for YEARS. Appear to be in pain.
3. At an opportune time, appear to be distracted deep in thought and then come out with "hey Baby, did I show you that guitar link yet"? She'll confirm. Reply: "Sorry Honey, I just can't seem to get it off my mind. Did you ever have something you just can't get off your mind"?
4. Pay her a physical compliment. Best performed as a feigned "surprise" moment, as if your were suddenly bewitched by her beauty which caused an erruption of spontaneous praise. Compliments regarding her figure work especially well.
5. Rent a romantic comedy for a "date night that I've just realized has been a long time coming". Cook a special dinner to go with it.
6. Repeat Step #4.
7. Ask her: "Hey (insert favorite pet name here), is there something really special you'd like this year for Christmas or your Birthday"? The "or Birthday" option gives you time to fulfill any expressed desire.
8. Continue Step #2. Add urgency to your pining, after the manner of: "on man I can't believe no one's bought this yet, and it's SO CHEAP"!
9. Sheepishly ask her if she's getting you what you really want this year for Christmas. Should your woman still not be defeated and offer up the guitar, in a swashbuckling fahion grab her around the waist pulling her close to you, whispering softly that besides her love that this guitar would be the greatest gift that she could EVER give you. Kiss her. State: "... so I guess we need to buy it now so it gets here in time for Christmas, right"?
10. Spend Christmas day playing your new guitar.
Heck, even if it doesn't work she'll appreciate it for the simple fact that you're actually being emotional for once.
I know my Wife would.

Re: To buy before Xmas?
Still can't really say one way or another due to lack of information.
As far as getting it past the distaff side there is alway the 48 hour rule....
If you had enough guits (like say, Arthur for example) it would be a snap. Just lose the it in the herd...

If I get it you'll see what I'm talking bout Ice - there may not be anyone on this forum familiar with this one - but they do have their own little following that are just as desperate to get them as the high end Westones.

Re: To buy before Xmas?
So this guitar is up for 350. i just left a voice mail for my friend who is 20 minutes away from the seller. I say to my friend I will give 500 to go pick it up and ship in a hard case in a voice mail. I'm thinking I should have said 600. we will see if this can happen - it's just a bad time being xmas time

Re: To buy before Xmas?
Didn't get it. ugh
If I had the extra cash I wold have bought it. This would really have been like getting a mint X350MA or 390 for 350 bucks. So bad that the opportunity showed itself right before christmas. Frustrating as I pride myself on good deals

Re: To buy before Xmas?
Psssst... is the coast clear to let us in on whatever this was then, anyway??
Re: To buy before Xmas?
nah.. I will wait till I get one, and then tell ya - sorry, but it is as collectable as a 350MA but in a different circle. Loose lips sink ships. I don't need any competition. I'll give ya hint - It has 6 stings and is not an acoustic.

Take a deep breath and then take the plunge.
Set it out amongst your others in something resembling... RESEMBLING plain sight. If it goes over 48 hours without a mention you are home free Barry. If it does get noticed before that, well.... not trying to sound harsh or devious here, but how upset can she get with you right now considering your delicate condition?
Get some mileage out of that bad boy before it runs out of gas!!
