To All Senior Members I have a Challenge!
I have recently purchased a Spectrum LX, I love her very much however...
If I push the 3rd or 4th string down around the 12th-14th frets it nearly sounds like it picks up the next fret along!
I hope that makes sense.
Keep in mind that if I press down really hard it seems o.k, just loose a bit of sustain.
I have checked for any twists or bends in the neck & seems very straight- also no burrs or dents as such on the frets in that area.
Would I be missing something, would you suggest I find a Luthier to help me?
Corsair, is there a mob that you would suggest to take it to, when you were here in OZ. I just want to take good care of her.
Apart from that She plays Soo Good, & I gigged her on New Years Eve. Went Well
Cheers,
Richie..

Re: To All Senior Members I have a Challenge!
Ooooh, I'm at a loss with that, Richie, but Westbone or Martin may be able to help.
Hell, man I was in Aussie as a callow 19 yr old - 32 years ago!! and apart from a brief stint in Mackay early last year hadn't been back!! I couldn't afford to take guitars in to set them up or troubleshoot, so did most stuff myself!! However, in Melbourne I went to Dynamic Music Enterprises - can't remember exactly where just at the moment - because they were Vantage agents!! They may not even be there now!!

Re: To All Senior Members I have a Challenge!
Sounds to me like you have a high fret or two. Adjusting the neck won't correct that. You could fiddle with string heights but that will likely bugger up your action and make playing awkward.
As a quick check try this:
• Make sure your neck is in correct adjustment first.
• Then lay a 6" (15cm) steel scale over the frets in this area and check to see if it "rocks" back and forth anywhere.
Move it up and down the neck and also check across the width.
If it does rock you can identify the offending high fret and file or polish it down.
You could also try (gently) tapping it down first with a wood block to see if it re-seats before going to the filing or polishing.

Don´t even bother. You´ve got a number of high frets alright.
Easy enough to remedy for someone in the know, and what´s needed is a fretleveling followed by a recrowning and polish of the frets.
Any good luthier will be able to pull this off for you.
If you got the proper tools it isn´t the end of the world to DIY even.
Look up the post called "refret of a Pantera" and you´ll get an idea what goes into it.

Re: To All Senior Members I have a Challenge!
You Guys are the best, thank you for your time on this.
I will take her to Bendigo, there is supposed to be a decent Guy @ Billy Hydes.
I just do not have the confidence to do a job like that myself.
Plus I would dare say work done would be warranted in some way for some piece of mind.
Cheers again Boys,
Richie..
