Post by bobroberts Thu Feb 11, 2010 10:56 am

hi,
what do prestige 150's go for (roughly) these days? i'm watching the current one on evilbay, and i don't have any guitar vouchers at the minute, so i offered the guy a trade. he's thinking about it... possibly..! i think my offer was pretty good for both of us, but cash-wise, how much are we talking for one of those guys? £ sterling, that is.

cheers,

Hi Bob

If you mean ebay item 320485889099, currently at £191-odd, it's also on the ebay/ craigslist page, courtesy of Duo-Fuzz.

Dunno about value, guess on ebay the conventional wisdom is it's worth whatever the top bid is when the auction closes. For what it's worth, I offerred the BIN price of £300 when this was first listed but the seller (may not be the current seller) wasn't able to wait in for courier collection so we had to agree to cancel the transaction. It came back on ebay with (I think) a different seller and a BIN of £449 from memory. Assume it didn't sell, hence its back on.

"I'm out" as they say on the TV show; found something else to throw my GAS tokens at, so good luck if you're after this one.

sadly, not enough. i watched one recently end @ $400 ish......great news if you're buying.........i just got a les paul recording, and, as much as it does, my prestige 250 still sounds and plays better! i think i'll hold onto mine awhile.

prices are all over the board, now. i wouldn't be surprized to find one for less than $200. (i got mine for $150 in a pawnshop.......shhhhhhh!!!!)

hi,
yeah, that's the one.. i'm not in a position to buy at the moment, so all i could offer was a swap for a 2 year old, but mint condition (as i just can't get on with it) mex. fender 50's classic player strat, which i reckon at about £350.
i figured it was a fair deal both ways. he clearly didn't! or thought he could do better..

that was the reason i asked what sort of money 150's were going for. if they were going for £stupid, he might've thought i was taking the mickey. i wasn't. we'll have to see what it goes for...

cheer anyway, guys! looks like i'll never have a prestige. i gave up on the 250's aaaages ago.. prestige 150 Icon_sad

Hi, new to the forum - I hadn't realised these things had so much of a devout following.

Anyway, I've owned a Prestige 150 for about 12 years but it hardly gets played. They are really nice to play and the sound is better than any Gibson I've played but I must admit that I've never really gotten over the headstock design, I just find it ugly! It's by far the worst feature of these guitars.

Anyway, being the shallow type more interested in style over substance when it comes to guitars, I was wondering if anyone fancied swapping it for another guitar? I'm open to suggestions and based in England (Manchester).

It is a black later model with the bird logo. The original knobs have been replaced at some point with the silver-topped types you'd find on an SG. The finish is pretty good although there is a bit of wear around the belt buckle area on the back. Someone seems to have added a scatchplate and removed it and so there are two small screw holes beside the pick-ups. I intend fixing this though and I'm also having the bridge re-chromed in the next week or so.

Edit: just spotted these: http://www.axetec.co.uk/knb004%20group%20550b.gif

Are the black ones the nearest replacements for the originals? Obviously the tone knobs had yellow numbers, but other than that, do they look about right?

Might be worth sticking a few photos up Tim, all guitar porn welcome on here!

Have you got any ideas as to what you'd consider as a swap?

Cash either way or just a swap?

I've taken the strings, bridge and tailpiece off it though so I can take the bridge to get re-chromed. When it's sorted, I'll take some photos. The guy down at the chrome place says it'll probably be a couple of weeks till it's done though.

I'm a Fender Jaguar player though really. They sound fairly awful in comparison to the Prestige, but like I say, I'm a fashion victim when it comes to guitars. I'd be interested in a half-decent tele or SG maybe. Other guitars I like are Jazzmasters, Mosrites, Hagstrom Vikings and similar semis. Not a Strat or LP fan (other than Jrs). I've no real idea of how valued these Prestiges are though, I must admit and I imaging there may be much scoffing as some of the guitars I've mentioned are above the price-range of the Prestige but I'm listing them just to give an idea of what my tastes are. I'd also be open to a cash offer as I've just sold a couple of combo organs (a Vox Continental and a Farfisa Compact) to fund the purchase of a Nord Electro 3. I'm just thinking that I'd be more likley to get a better deal with an exchange.

Anyway, does anyone have any thoughts on the knobs in my previous post?

Hi mate, Are you just wanting to buy or do you have anything to swap? I have not managed to repair the small srcrew holes yet and the bridge has still not been chromed - I've been down to the place twice and it's been shut both times. I've stuck a gibson-style tunomatic on it for the time being.

Hi. I would be buying the item. Can you describe the current condition of the guitar and what sort of price would you be looking for? Apart from the guitar being in bits, is it complete..?

The guitar isn't in bits. It's complete with a new set of knobs as mentioned in one of the posts above, and new set of strings. Only trouble with it is that it temporarily has a tune-o-matic bridge on it as I've been trying to get the original re-chromed. It works perfectly and other than the two screw holes next to the pick-ups where I presume a (non-original) scratch plate once was, it's very good cosmetically. My dad works in the wood finishing industry and says he can repair the screw-holes. If you want it I could probably have these two things fixed in the nest couple of weeks. I'll take some photos and stick them up shortly.

What sort of money would you be looking for once the guitar is finished..? Does it come complete with the original hard case..?

No hardcase unfortunately - they had been seperated by the time I bought
it about 12 years ago. I'm hoping for £350 for it.

Thanks Tim, the guitar is great.
Needs a setup including intonation and the fitment of hybrid strings to get a
heavier rhythm tone out of it. Should sound excellent when
complete. Thanks once again.
