Hello you lovely fellow musicians Smile

I got this guitar as a gift from someone who found it in his cellar and had no use for it. I have no idea what it is. I hope you guys can help.
Yes, I searched the internet, but that wasn't really helpful. It seems to be something from the 60s/70s made in Italy. Thats all I could find out.
You probably know more?

Thanks in advance Smile

Hi and welcome.

Yep, Italian and nothing to do with Matsumoku. Have a look at this post for a discussion as well as a link to detailed pictures of what it's supposed to look like!

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you'll see "Westone":

Your guitar is in rough shape and looks to have been painted over (at least the head stock)??
It is restorable if you would care to put in the effort but it is not anywhere near the quality of the instruments we feature here so your mileage may vary on success!

Also that truss rod appears to have detached itself from the head stock end and the adjuster is sticking out. If you plan to keep the guitar that is one thing that needs attention right away.

Hi Barry,

thanks, that was helpful.
So you would say the guitar isn't worth anything?
I'm not intending to get any money out of it, I wanted to take it as a base for a guitar building project.
But it would be a pity if I fiddle with some precious old instrument with heritage or something..

I couldn't comment on its worth, there may be someone out there who collects these models for its historical place in Westone guitar evolution.

All I can tell you is that it does not have the quality that is a Matsumoku or Korean made instrument and therefore would not command the interest and dollar value that they do.

Since it looks like it would need a lot of work to restore it (probably not worth the effort) I'd say it would be an ideal platform for experimentation or modding. Go for it!
If you decide to do that how about some pix of your progress? Coffee Drinker
