There's only one photo for this listing on the Guitar Center website (which is not atypical for them), but the condition of the body looks good at least, and the fine tuners are all present. There's no trem arm visible, but it does come with a case, so maybe it's stored in there. If I didn't already have this exact guitar, I would be interested!

GC seems to have a lousy rep these days from what I read.

Certainly, posting only one incomplete picture is not up to buyer expectations, especially for an asking price (in my case) of over CDN$700!

It looks OK but without more details it automatically raises suspicions that there's something that they're hiding.

That said, I too have the same model, and it is an extremely comfortable well balanced guitar to play, with an unusual tonal control which is completely different from the more common Mats MMK45/53 sound.

To my ears it's very much an "80's" sounding output, so if you're into that, pull on the Spandex and go for it! clown

I agree, the price is much higher than what I paid for mine, and GC's rep these days is not great, but one advantage is their generous "no-questions" return policy even for used gear. I've had guitars shipped to me, tried them out, and returned them if they weren't to my liking. The only catch is that the buyer is on the hook for the shipping cost, which is usually around 20 bucks. Since these don't come around very often (at least in my searches), it might be worth a shot for the player who's been interested in them but hasn't had the chance to play one. (I bought mine from a local seller on Craig's List, so I didn't have the safety net of a return policy. Luckily for me, the price was cheap enough that there wasn't much of a risk at all.)

It's a great guitar, very versatile, and I would definitely recommend it to any one interested in it. I don't find it's sound to be dated to the 80s, although I guess it depends on what you're playing it through. Mine primarily goes through an old Danelectro amp or Fender Vibro-Champ for more classic sounds or a recently-acquired Friedman amp, which yes can certainly achieve that 80s-shredder sound, but is also capable of classic, modern, and among many other things!

I got mine locally via Kijiji for a ridiculously cheap price a few years back (there's a detailed post on the forums here if you're interested in ferreting it out).

Luckily for me it was in great shape in all the things that count save for a chewed up bottom bout from not storing it in a case...or even a stand! Otherwise it's fantastic to play and I'm not getting rid of it any time soon.

Any beefs I had with the tone are purely subjective and can be EQ'd or volume-ed away.

Hey, what Dano amp  are you using? I have a '65 DM25 (tube) and a Nifty Fifty solid state. Both great!

What a coincidence! Mine is also a DM25! I picked it up last year from a local trading post (kind of like a pawn shop, I guess) and fell instantly in love with it (I think maybe I fall in love too easily!). Such a great sound and the tremolo is to die for!

I also have the mid-70s Fender Vibro-champ, a small 50s-era Masco amp, an early-50s Gibson GA-20, and the aforementioned Friedman (Pink Taco V2). I also have a a solid-state Yamaha amp from my younger days (I forget the model), but I can't get it to work and don't think it's worth paying a tech to get it up and running again. I wish I could work on amps myself, but I'm too afraid of electrocuting myself!

Yeah the DM25 tremolo circuit is a great sound alright. The tank Reverb is a wild sound too, but mine is experiencing something weird and I can't tame it much. It spirals out of control.

And I hear ya about electrocuting yourself!
Some years ago when I worked at the local guitar shop, I had our consultant amp repair guy get rid of the original "death cap" wiring in mine.affraid  This, after having played the thing for decades!

If you don't know about that I'd recommend getting it looked after for safety's sake.

Essentially the only thing standing between you and getting zapped in the event of a short circuit is a simple capacitor. If it fails you are the ground since there is only a 2 wire power supply with no ground lug! It now has a standard 3-prong plug with a proper ground.

In the process or rewiring, the old "Ground" switch became redundant and is now just decorative. It's original purpose was to try and eliminate any hum from the circuit but didn't offer any protection.

Yeah, the reverb is certainly its own beast and nothing like a Fender, but it's actually kinda usable in a small dose or completely maxed out. No in-betweens with that thing. I usually have it totally off, though.

Regarding the death cap, I was initially concerned about that, but the place I bought it from supposedly had a "tech" go through it and it was updated with a 3-prong plug, so I assume that makes it safe and worry-free to use even if the so-called death cap wasn't actually removed. Um...right??

Either way, I'm no stranger to getting zapped. A few months ago, I was playing in the living room with a few friends and got the nastiest shock of my life while playing guitar through the Vibro-Champ and singing into a microphone at the same time. Turns out the outlet I was plugged into had an open ground. And after checking every outlet in the house, THAT was the only outlet with an open ground. Live (thankfully!) and learn! Check those outlets before you plug into them...
