I've just been talking with a seller on Kijiji who is selling a gorgeous trans blue APII Cardinal 350. He happens to live about 5 minutes from me! But he too is looking for CAD$750.

I braced him for the reality that he may not see anything close to that. I'd dearly love to get it but the price triggers my Cheep Bastid alarm...and, I have to pay the tax man about the same amount by the end of the month!

Guess who wins?

True, 😀 it would be nice with mandatoty guitar money at the end of the month...

.... remember, too, that the Cardinal was the Spectrum/Avenger of the APII range; seems really expensive, buddy...

Yeah, he seems a nice enough fellow but he's convinced it's worth a lot more than it is:

He did say he would go as low as CAD$600.
But even at that, and even considering it's a trans blue finish, it still ain't worth more than about $300 or so.

I'd still love to have it.

At the risk of hijacking my own thread, if you're interested in the Cardinal mentioned above, the seller has dropped his price to CAD$350, much more reasonable. I guess I persuaded him.  LINK

Ooo. Figures,  after get two others - the one I was looking for shows up. You are right, it is pricey tho.

You're welcome. I did chat with him about the price and I thought I had convinced him he was too high. But sometimes you're so emotionally attached it's hard to accept that yer baby ain't worth what ya think it is.

Both of the ads are way too high, 2X at least the worth!  Sad.

As luck wold have it, a seller in Ottawa currently has an identical Cardinal...for CAD$275!

My deluded neighbour in St Catharines still has his Cardinal up for $650, down by a $100 form his first post, but still out of line.

CAD$275 - That's only £160! (so google tells me). That sounds very good value....

The seller in Ottawa dropped his price from CAD$250 to $195 and, surprise, surprise, it sold!

The seller here in St Catharines is still dicking me around. He contacted me out of the blue and asked what I'd pay for it. I gave him a range of $150-200. He said he'd take $175...then became evasive about when I could pick it up. So far he's not answered my last email.
Meantime, he's dropped the price in his ad to $450!!

Some folks just cannot be schooled. I'm not holding my breath.

I poked the seller a little bit to try and get the guy to get his thumb out and commit to a pick up time...specifically to reply today or forget it.

I commented that I had noticed he had reduced the price again and told him that the people watching would kick in with offers once he reduced the asking price to the range I had indicated that it was worth. If lucky, he might end up with $50 more than our agreed to $175, or $225

He mis-reads my email and somehow comes to the conclusion that I was offering him $50 for the guitar and that he was offered $200 at a pawn shop! (about what I told him it was worth in the first place)

I gave him hell and told him to re-read my message and that this was no way to do business. I got a quick apology and another request to give him until the end of the week because he's "so busy".

So, I dunno. Either I'll not hear again from him, or the next post will be showing off number 35 in the collection!

i'm in the process of buying a spectrum LX bass.  so, just for curiosity, just how much is one worth in "original" and "as new" condition?

Whatever you're prepared to pay! I know that sounds glib but it's true; there's all kinds of Westones for sale out there and some are at reasonable prices and others are not. Some owners have an ill-founded belief that because these guitars are nearly 40 years old, then they must be worth plenty; the Matsumoku market has steadied after being a little volatile a few years back and values seem to be down a little from those halycon days.

... i don't think that i'm paying over the odds for it. nor do i think it's a bargain. my fatal mistake was to read a review on it, which was rather glowing. and a far bigger mistake is that i have too many guitars anyway ... but i think that i'll live!

What's the worst that could happen? You don't like it and therefore move it on: no harm, no foul as our American cousins are want to remark! At best, you'll have a good, usable bass! Personally, I like mine heaps - Spectrum GT - and moved the P-Bass that I was using on...

i've now ponied-up the money for the spectrum LX bass. i just have to wait to get my hands on it.

i'm trying to be more careful about what i buy. my strategy is to go for quality, at a reasonable price, rather than cheap and cheerful. the thing with so-called bargains is that they can cost just as much in the long run. so, fewer and better is now my mantra.
