What to buy??
I've got my trustee Thunder 1A, 3 Fender strats and a fender acoustic. Greedy I know but I'd like to add another. I'm thinking either a Yamaha SG2000 or a Gibson LP. What do you reckon? Or is there something better out there? Help me please, cheers!

Re: What to buy??
You've already got a double h/b guitar so what about a Thunder III, V3/ Electra X195 with the s/c-h/b- s/c set up?? Or a super strat like a Pantera X300?
And what's more, I don't see a Telecaster in that list... either a Tele or a Westone Clipper CL4112??
Let's see... a Vantage Avenger with the s/c in the bridge and a h/b in the neck?
Or - and this is where we get serious!! - a pointy like the APII Urchin, Westone Dim 4/Dynasty/Monark, Electra Lady or Vantage Invader II?? And that's only the Matsumoku ones!! Plenty of posing value there! Good sounds, too!
Twin neck?? I like the Dave Mustaine twin VMNT lots... Mandolin? I've got one and play it regularly! 5 string banjo?! Got one of those, too and noodle on it a bit!
If you're set on an LP, have a look at the APII PE series; nice looking guitars with LP punch and subtle styling changes??
Keep us informed as to your choices, eh!!

Re: What to buy??
how about another Westone...
a Prestige 250...
...or maybe a Spectrum FX
or maybe add a little acoustic flavor to your line up...
a Rainbow 2
or full size hollowbody with a Session 2...
or you could go wild and build yourself a custom guitar...

Hey!! You've been holding out on us, Damian; what's the middle one?? Like it!
And with all due respect, fellas, he's already got a H/H guitar so the 350s and Prestiges are just gilding the lily... and to a certain extent so are the jazz guitars!
I suppose it depends what he's looking for, eh; a different sound, different look or ????

Re: What to buy??
Thanks guys, really appreciate it. Lots of good options there. I had a prestige 250 back in the mid 80's, really wish I had kept hold of it as they are hard to find. I'm really keen on the Yamaha Sg2000 but they are so expensive same as the gibsons. Quite like the sound of the Aria and the Spectrum. What about Ibanez, any good?

If you can find one, I can heartily recommend a Yamaha SF1200. Double-humbuckers, through neck, onboard pre-amp.

Re: What to buy??
You could always go with a Danelectro 57 reissue, lipstick pups are really nice and you would never notice it round your neck as they are so very, very light.
Still recommend a spectrum hss or hsh coil tappable......... I can only think of one guy here who doesn't love the spectrums, but he's a bit of a high end mats snob and shall remain nameless..... For now :-)

These are a well regarded guitar.
Yamaha AEX 520 with mini hums or AEX 502 with P 90's.
Either guitar takes both pups.
Can be picked up for reasonable money.

I always strongly recommend to serious guitar collectors that they must have a Dano! They are extraordinary guitars and just as "iconic" as the the big brands. Damn fun to play too.Sgt. Vimes wrote:You could always go with a Danelectro 57 reissue...

Re: What to buy??
How about a Aria Pro 11 CS400 instead of a Yamaha sg or Les paul.. Just got one myself an there a cracking guitar.. Best bit was i paid well £200:00 notes for it .... Will say also check out Sterling guitars, though if you have the money Musicman guitars are the one to look at... G&L too are doing some fantastic stuff too...
Though Barry has a good point as the Dano's are great fun.... love my U56 original reissue..

Roger that. For the money, absolutely a first class build, with the best tremolo on the market. And the greatest necks since Uncle Mats.G.A.S. man wrote:...if you have the money Musicman guitars are the one to look at...
Breaks my heart though that we can't convince many customers to get serious about them. You put one in their hands and they play 'em. Love the feel, the tone, the trem stability, the quality! Then...they want to play a Fender/Gibson.

I played a new Gibson Les Paul next to my now Ibanez Artist in the shop - had no idea what the Artist was back then. The artist destroyed the LP that cost 5 times as much! That is what started my love with Mats

Be aware though that the metal used in the reissue bridge was not too strong and had a tendency to "sag" which buggered up the action.
I ended up replacing mine with a Wilkinson 'GE Smith' style telecaster half bridge: Post Info at Matsumoku
I hated to do it but it made sense at the time. I have since found a better fix which allows a non-intrusive repair: Repair

Anyone know anything about Hagstrom guitars. Been looking at the swede gold top (les Paul shape) looks really nice but I've no idea if they're any good. I checked out the Danelectro guitars but didn't like the look of them. I'm sure they are great but not my cup of tea to be truthful.

Lol..... Greg it sounds to me that you need a spectrum, versatile, tough, beautiful necks on even bottom of the range ST, look great and sound good....... With upgraded pups ;-)
There's a nice looking black spectrum fx on ebay right now, or you could punt for my black SX or even my cheaper DX..... Or a Concord!..... Not one of mine thkugh, them concords are astonishing.

I'm on eBay every day, addicted! It's really hard to choose a guitar with do much choice. I just don't want to part with my money and then regret the decision. I checked out the Uncle Willies guitars, they look superb to be honest. I reckon I will make my mind up by Christmas!

Re: What to buy??
Go for something far fetched and hard to come by, like a Prestige, Pantera X390 or X350, or one of the signature models like the Dana or Lynch. That'll keep you looking!
Can't go wrong with a Les Paul if you're going in the Gibson direction, but how about a different look like an Explorer? Or find an old Les Paul style Electra like the Omega or an MPC guitar.
I'll usually prefer older guitars, they're much more rare and exciting to find. Anyone can buy a new guitar, but only the persistent and obsessed can unearth a vintage-ish gem!

I agree with you Chad, really fancy something a bit different but has to be affordable. I would love to bit another Prestige 250, it's been 28 years since I've owned one of those! That said, I can't find one anywhere. Patience is the virtue as they say..

Reason I say is that the carved Strat body in his advert is exactly the same as one or two advertised on DHgate, Chinese broker. ???
Re: What to buy??
here's a couple bits from another of uncle willie's listings....
many customers email me and ask how my bodies and
necks can be sold so reasonably.
The answer is simple... 1) I sell at wholesale to the Public. I'm not making 3 tons of money and I don't
want to be Bill Gates. 2) I run a small, low overhead shop. 3) The high end goods from the high end
makers will have much more attention spent in the hidden details. Cavities, etc. My units are designed
to look good where it counts and that's what you actually see when the guitar is finished. In addition, I
do not consider minor paint imperfections and such to be major issues. A handmade neck or body is
not going to be absolutely perfect. That's just the way it is. Unless, of course, you want to drop a few
grand. So, in a nutshell, that's how Uncle Willie does it.
Lastly, just a final note from an American Veteran of the Vietnam era..please support American owned business. It's the one thing each and every one of us can do to help our country and our economy. Every dollar that goes to China or any other country that supports the cheapest labor is a dollar that could have stayed in the USA and helped an American family. We need to stick together when it comes to these things.. sure, we all want the best price.. but at what cost..?? Shoes, clothing and many other things have all but disappeared from American factories. What's next..? Think of your future and Support American Business now. Just another Rant from Uncle Willie.
(bold text in the quotes by me)

Re: What to buy??
You have Strats why another, as Vimes mentions it's way overpriced and it has a big gouge down the front of it. Concord III are the one's to go for. Far better than I's + II's
DX, nothing special, also depends which pups are in there too.
Go for the Rainbow I ,great guitars. Make him an offer? £440 is a bit pricey, say £350.
Your going to have to make your own mind up sometime as folks will have different preferences on here.
All about personal taste old chap...
Go for the higher end guitars, they'll always be higher end.
