Hello everyone,

Happy New Year Smile

I recently visited a local charity shop and spotted a guitar in their office. A Westone Spectrum Series II. It had just come in and upon asking was for sale. £20 later and it was mine Laughing

It has been well used and apparently the chap who left it said it was a good 'un.

Now I know little about guitars but like a challenge and felt that I wanted to get it working.

So, new strings, tremelo arm, knob and a practise amp for Christmas finaly confirmed that it does work.

The tricky bit(s) that are missing are the string clamps. I have repaired the threaded base plate (stripped thread) but need to know a little about the clamps.

I have found some images on the net that point me in the right direction, but in order for me to manufacture some (assuming that they are like hen's teeth to get hold of) I need to know:

Are they steel? Is the face that clamps down onto the string just a plain flat face?

Cheers

Only the FT stringlock has 1mm shims.

The FR has 6 (3 bottom, 3 top) of Sgt Vimes type

Hi everyone,

First of all thanks very much for the replies. Great forum.

Thanks for the offer Sgt Vimes, one that I really would like to take up. Just not 100% sure the narrow rectangle is right and so I will take a closer look and maybe take a couple of photo's for you guys.

As for shims chaps, I had no idea it uses them. Again I hope from the photo's someone will know what it should have.

Cheers

The narrow rectangle might not look as right but believe me it works absolutely perfectly.

As you say photos will confirm.

The Deluxe has the shims, the FT has the 6 lock washers. And Intune will be needing the washers, shims and bolts... and he'll be hoping that none of the holes are stripped!!

HAve a hunt around in here for Bendmaster threads and you'll find pretty much all the info you need...

Well its always nice to know exactly what you've got.

Thanks 'The Chad' for the 'clicky here'. I most certainly did.

I had no idea what I had picked up in the charity shop but I am sure glad I did and am enjoying it Very Happy

The trem arm I bought off Amazon and had no idea at the time what it should look like.

Funny enough I had already found the stripped thread Corsair but have since repaired it using a helicoil.

The volume pot is a bit crackerly but works ok at the loader end, much to the cats annoyance!

I have now contacted Sgt. Vimes for spares.

Thanks to everyone for the tips and continuing to help to get this axe back together.

Volume pot could probably use a dose of contact cleaner.... not, I might add, a dose of WD 40 or similar, but CRC 2-26 or DeOxit!!

The little shims are easy enough to make as they're they same shape as the washers so you've already got a template; they're 1mm thick and I use the steel strapping from wool bales.

Damian; no worries, mate - I've lost count of he number of times I've screwed the pooch!!
