Pootyman - Nice guitars! I haven't seen any Pantera's up here (Canada). Welcome, I think you will like it here! I haven't been around long on this site, but can tell you that there are lots of people on this board with serious knowledge about Westones and guitars in general.

Newbie here with a Pantera X390
Hey everyone . . . I have had a dull black finish Pantera X390 in storage for the better part of 15 years. I just recenly pulled it out and to my surprise it is in mint condition! Hooked it up to an old Crate Amp with tube pre-amp and Celestion speaker and man I was reminded quickly how much I love the guitar. How do I know what year my guitar is? I know it has a Bendmaster Deluxe. But is there any way to confirm the year and rarity (or lack there of) by sight? Thanks in advance! Love the forum!

Re: Say hello...
Hi there and Welcome,
The Pantera's are very, very nice guitars and I am not surprised how much you like yours. To date your guitar, look at the serial number on the back of the headstock. You are only interested in the first three numbers, the first one denotes the year and the second two, the month. So, for example, if it reads 605xxxxx, that will mean that your guitar was made in (6) 1986, during the month of (05) May.
Post some pics so we can all drool

Re: Say hello...
Greetings!
I have my very first Westone, I received it yesterday. It is a Chrome Yellow AX1330, reverse headstock model from '87 or '88. I don't see much info about this model. I really need to set it up, it's ok, but will be stellar with an hour of cleaning and adjusting. I must say the quality is very good and it has a great metal tone, even with 10-year old strings on it.
I'm 39
I love most music.
I'll be lurking around here trying to absorb as much info as I can, this is a great forum! Thanks for starting it.

Re: Say hello...
Hi and Welcome,
Dont lurk around, post some pics, I dont think I have ever seen a Westone in chrome yellow. There are few problems with Westones unless they have been messed around with. Good tonewoods ! If your new arrival is complete, the only item to keep an eye on is the string lock plate, but there are plenty of posts on this subject area.
All the best
Steve

Hi From Kansas
Hey everyone
I was searching for info and came across this site, very cool!
Sometime in the late 80s I bought a new guitar but it's been long gone since then I could never remember the make, until now.
My wife decided she wanted me to teach her guitar so one day she comes home with this wicked super strat with the name Westone on the headstock. It hit me like a ton of bricks, I used to have one! I'm still trying to figure out the model of the one I had but hers is a Villain Pro. I need to rewire it and do a complete setup but from what I can tell this thing is a shredder! I still do a fair share of shredding, but for the most part I've gotten comfortable with LPs, on the other hand I must say I'm pretty happy having a super strat in the house again
Anyways I'm glad I joined, and you all can look forward to me picking your brains a bit.

Re: Say hello...
Welcome in here, friend; I don't think anyone here's seen a Villain before - you are gonna show it to us, aren't you?! I don't know an awful lot about the Villains but at this point would assume the wiring to be stock Westone type! What are the pickups on it marked, if anything? There should be markings - hopefully - on the bottom plate...

According to Westone.info, Villain Pros had EMG Select pickups. They were Korean, you know.

Cool; what are they like as p'ups? Yeah, I know they're MIK and not Matsumoku but they intrigue me and are apparently well worthy of the name, as are the Dana series and I'd like to know a little more about them, eh!

It's not enough to just talk about a git on a guitar forum right?

hi All
HI All
I have just found this site after owning a prestige 250 since 1994.
other guitars: Gibson Les Paul Double cut, Aria 12 string acoustic, Honner Proffesional Les Paul L75, Home made Les Paul (just to see if i could do it )
Basses: Vintage Fretless, Tokai bass (has seen many better days), Harvey Benton acoustic bass and newly aquirred Westone super headless that is very poorly indeed.
Amps: Marshall 8080 valvestate, Marshall JCM 900 combo, and a rare Marshall specialist 1972 combo with a 15" spider cone in it
other stuff: Roland D10, Roland GR50 MIDI guitar synth, MicrKorg, a couple of Bodhrans, homebrew Theremin
The headless is my new multistage restoration project as it has been molested badly but is still a thing of beauty.
I work as a sound engineer and teach music tech, I have just finished my first project as a producer which is due for release on the 28th of September

Re: Say hello...
Hi,
welcome aboard in the nuthouse.
Paste a link to the sound files, if it's possible, you produced recently.
People here are really keen for such things.
Did you also play some of your instruments, the Westones, in this productions?
Then the curiosity is even a level higher.

I just had a listen to the preview and I have to say great work lads, excellent stuff.
My personal favorite is 'Million Stars', love the chiming chords with reverb and delay, then the feedback on the solo, wow .
Hope this leads to bigger things for you guy's, it sounds great, well done.

Re: Say hello...
Well, what can I say, thanks very much. It is nice to here some comments as after a year in production it is a little hard to have an idea of what the rest of the world thinks of it. I am glad you like it, I do. It is out on the 28th September so you should find it in the shops or Itunes.
the difficult second album is being written and due to start production just after christmas.
please continue to support a truly independent production.
thanks

Hello and Welcome DiddyDave! (Oh anybody remember Diddy Dave Hamilton?)
Well guys, although still a bit bedraggled around the edges, I'm back up and running again on nearly all cylinders!
It's no use you just telling us about what you've got Dave, you have to show us! I'm especially looking forward to seeing the 'poorly headless one'!

Re: Say hello...
so you must be the famous Polly
here you go:
the poorly Super Headless which has now no hardware at all on it in prep for the rebuild
My Old friend the prestige 250 iv'e had for about 15 years next to my new Gibson (i really need to take a better photo ) there is very little between them in way of sound (the Gibsons slightly more 'barky') but the prestige has a considerably lighter action (narrower nut as well)

Hello everyone ! :
Well, time for introductions ( please sorry for my poor english )
Name : Jaume Boscà
City : Tavernes de la Valldigna , at 50km from Valencia
Country : Spain ( The lost ass of this world )
Westones : no one yet !
How I get here ? : Well , if you have some time for reading this , go ahead !.
I´m a guitar enthusiast , and play as much as have a little time ( I´m a bar tender , so you can imagine ... ) . I´m a big fan of Trevor Rabin´s works in Yes and thanks to Internet I have discovered , at last , what guitar used in those years ! Well , it´s strat is unique and we can´t do nothing about it,but when I was aware that he used the westone pantera , well .... Exciting !!!
I haven´t read yet so much threads in this forum but I´m so sure that some guys here ( almost everyone, I expect ) have made their dreams come true and have at least one ot this beautiful axes ... And I want to achieve that dream too !!!
I hope and wish to get one Pantera some time ... but it´s so difficult to find one , and here in Spain is almost impossible if you don´t have internet and some skills seeking.
Another thing that I have in mind from some time is to build my very own Pantera , but haven´t found any template for it.I´m learning also to work with woods and my brother and I made some projects - no one finished - in guitar buildings. But is a matter of time that we get a guitar working and made by our own hands.
I hope to find here some good information, and friends of course , about finding a Pantera or some diagrams, layouts or templates that help us for building our own! I will follow the forum activity as time let me do it for getting the lastest info about westone guitars
That´s it! Hello to everyone again and thanks for the admins´ work in this forum and long live !
Cheers !

Hello and Welcome KNM!
Please do not apologise for your English, it is very good and you write English far better than I could ever speak Spanish!
I do hope that you find the Pantera that you are looking for, I own one and they are beautiful guitars!
Wow! That would be a real challenge to build your very own guitar and it is something that I also would like to get around to doing, one of these years!
Good luck with your search and stick around - you never know what might turn up!

Hello Polly !
Thanks for your kind words. The building is quite a challenge, but I hope the Pantera users in this forum could help me not only finding one for me , also with valuable data for building one. Photographs , measures for creating templates, diagrams or schematichs.Every little bit of information could be important.
I will open a thread exposing this questions and hope that joining forces could create something usable for those who wants to face this challenge.

Say Hallo...
Hi all,
I´m Ralf - I live in Kassel/Germany. I just bought a QUEST ATAK 2b Bass from 1984. I surched the net to get more information about this
baby and I found this forum. Great! - In the 70´s I played the bass in a band - no one else wanted to play the bassguitar. I got an LP - shaped Ibanez in black. I wonder where it is now??! - M y interest changed to photography and film. I became a cameraman - still with a hang to playing music. My little spanish akustik Guitar is always there - 7 years ago I bought a Gretsch Electromatic and a small Marshallamp.
Suddently I feel the need to come back to play bass again and I found this beautifull Quest Atak and a crate basscombo.I will pick it up in Hamburg tomorrow - now I am happy to found this forum! I will let you know more about the Quest Atak 2b after i tested it.

Re: Say hello...
Hello Ralf and Welcome,
Well what you have there mate is certainly a Matsumoku but not a Westone! I had one of these Quest Atak Basses myself for a short while last year and although I don't play bass, it is one cool machine!
As John has so rightly pointed you to the Matsumoku forums, there is no need for me to do it now! Anyhow, you are welcome to post some photos in the 'Non Westone' discussion forum.

Hello Stranger and Welcome!
Long time no hear! Glad to have you aboard mate, I hope you are going to be a good boy though now that I am at the helm, so to speak!
Whatever happened to that Dimension IV of yours, do you still have it or has that long gone?
Nice to see you again. Tell Jacob that 'Aunty Polly' says hello!

O yea, i still have my Dimensions IV, Unfortunalty it is in unsaveable formatt. The neck is still good, Body is shot. Have all the hardware, And pickups (If anyone is needing any pieces, i will be happy to send). Ive been currently looking for another. Also maybe another Kelly, Jacob is a mean little devil right now. lol He is in that " I can get into everything and mommy and daddy dont care " stage. Nice to see you got John on here aswell. I do not know if he remembers me or not. But IF you do John. I DID stick up for you on the other forum., and was banned. lol. I seen you posted your clipper 6 for sale I remember when you got that. You was so proud! Even though it had its nasty green paint all over it. But i remember you worked hard on it to get it looking nice. Ive tried to email you. I dunno if your getting them or not. I use 2 diffrent ones. You can either reach me at thrashpirate@yahoo.com or scubba.steve@yahoo.com Or you can just leave me a message on here Cause i will be sticking around for awhile. Ive noticed a couple Westones here in the us ebay. Nothing catches my eye yet. Tonya is great, she got promoted to Department Manager at Walmart, And im still working nightshifts. Ive got a nasty cavity in one of my wisdom teeth, I have to go and get it pulled out on monday. There gonna gas me!!! Lol better i guess, so i wont feel a thing. But yea, everythings been going good on this end. I just got off work and am trying to find the wifey something for christmas online.
Weve about got this new cd mastered, we lack 2 songs being complete. Then its off to Soundmass for them to put on there label. I will post pics of the Dimensions IV under members Westones.

Hello Mike and welcome to the forums!!
That would be a Bc Rich Warlock, Its value depends on the submodel. Like bronze, gold, platinum.
Appears to be a a 90's model judging by the headstock, but will never know since its been striped and a westone emblem placed on it.
I wouldnt waist my money on it man, some of these models you can buy new fairly cheap.

It's cheap anyway, £60 Uk Pounds, but I'll give it a miss if It's not Westone.
I'll keep looking, and check back here for info, It's a great resource!

Hmmm, interesting. I guess it is? I am stumped on this one. I have never seen a westone like that before. I just assumed it was a bc ric h, judging by the bodystyle and headstock. Im not familiar with the 90's models. I would send Corsiar, or Pollyanna a pm on this one bud.
According to Davids website it is infact a westone.

Re: Say hello...
It is NOT a Matsumoku, SLM, or Sid Poole Westone. It is a cheap Chinese BC Rich copy with the Westone logo slapped on it because someone purchased rights to the name and decided to drag it through the mud.

Re: Say hello...
Yep, sorry Mike but Warrn is right on this.
It's not Uncle Mat, it's not made in Japan (or in the UK by dear old Sid Poole, or in Korea for that matter), it's a cheap & nasty chinese knock-off BC Rich copy. In short, it's a turd with a good name. If Westone were still around as a company they'd be buying back the right to use the Westone name and logo to stop crap like this being made... and it won't be a patch on the "real" Westone you had.
If you want to rediscover your lost youth and play a Westie again, keep an eye on UK ebay or pop in here and see what's on the ebay page; brother Dan (Duo-fuzz) apparently has a direct link to the ebay mothership and flags up most of the Westones that appear on UK ebay. Spectrums and well-played Thunders are still good value both as 4 and 6 stringers (or buy one of each, a perfect 10!) and if the gods are smiling we occasionally see a Pantera or Prestige

I'm smart enough to know a semi polished turd when I see one, they're all too common in all forms of life these days!
It's just great to have good guys to help out and confirm suspicions or help spot the real thing.
I'm in no great rush, I'll wait till the right thing comes along, and just update myself in the mean time, do some catchin up.
Meanwhile, I was given an old satellite Les Paul copy today, old old, well used and abused, so I'll strip it down and do a cheap rebuild until a proper guitar comes along!
I miss my old Thunder 1A !
Case Closed!

Introduction
Hi everyone. Glad to find this forum. I live near Philadelphia, PA USA. I am 36 years old and been playing guitar for about 23 of them. My first electric was a cheap flying V knockoff that I got on scratch and dent at age 13. My first REAL electric was a Westone Corsair GT that I got for Christmas a year or so later. It was a teal color that exactly matched a "Members only" jacket that I had been given (remember those?). I had that guitar for about 6 years and then, after buying an Ibanez S series custom, loaned the Westone to a "friend" who subsequently destroyed it!! I've had some great guitars over the years but always missed that Westone. Last summer I found another Corsair GT in trans blue/purple that needed some TLC. I rescued it and am in the process of restoring it though it is certainly playable at this point. I even played it on a few gigs. I will try to post some pics of the Corsair and my other guitars in the near future. Glad to be here!

Hi
Didn't see this section before I posted in the general forum - anyway I'm 38, live in Manchester UK and my first guitar was a Kay SG copy bought for £10 from a kid at school, horrible little plank of wood really but got me hooked, was followed by a Kay Strat (marginally better) and then a nameless 'decent' strat copy. All these before what I consider my first proper guitar, a Westone Spectrum DX, which I loved and I think the only reason I got rid of it was because my mum wouldn't let me have more than one guitar at the same time and I really wanted a Washburn WP-50 Les Paul, which is still my main guitar to this day (over 20 years later!).
As mentioned in my other post I now also own a Thunder 1A and a newly acquired Concorde II, both in need of a little attention. I can't believe that they don't sell for more given their reputation, a quick browse through harmony central reviews shows how well thought of they are. Hoping to pick up some restoration tips and have a few laughs along the way, glad to be here

Hello everyone ... my second posting on the Westone forum . My 'formal' introduction.
Name: Kees (pronounced in English as 'case')
Fabricated in: 1966
Where: The Netherlands, Europe
First guitar: ehhh... a Hondo classical, around 1978, I think ...
First electric: AX-Tech strat copy, 1986(?)
First real guitar: Aria Pro II CS-250 (Cardinal), some four years ago ...
Now: Some fourty, half of them Matsu-made Vantage's
First Westone: ... still need to find me one, to justify my being here
Married to Buffy (not the Slayer), two daughters (9 and 7 yo)
Self-employed graphic designer
Active member to GuitarDir.com (Admin.) and Matsumoku.org (Mod.)
What else do you need to know? ... blood type O-neg, so whenever you're bleeding out, come to me!
Reason to be here on the Westone forum: One of your senior members invited me (and a couple of others from Matsu-forum) over tonight, because of the fact that Mr. Tom Presley registered himself as a member ... I (and that couple of other Matsu-forum members)'ve been researching the chronology of Japanese made Vantage guitars for some time now. Because of the input of a new Australian member there named Trevor, we were just on the virge of a break-through on how to interpred the Vantage serial numbers. We've seemed to be wrong for a long time! Mr. Presley might be able to help us seperate facts from fiction. Besides that, the Westone-Vantage relationship is of interrest to me, for obvious reasons.
Glad to be here, I'm just gonna have a look around the forum now!
