Corsair GT transparent red WE7400TRR project
like this one, but wrecked<-
name your price, yes really.
i've had this for years and have not found parts
i'm not going to be able to rebuild it at anytime in the near future either
so if you feel ambitious and want a challenge, surely this guitar will reward you for the effort.
take a look at the pics and ask any questions you like
and then name your price -
you will pay for shipping. i can ship it neck-off to keep costs down.

OK... interest piqued... we need to chat, Mike....
...nothing too scary there, and although what I want, what I really, really want is an Phoenix X175, this would do nicely... is that a bridge anchor poking through into the spring cavity? I can see all kinds of possibilities there, eh; e.g..... Bridge P90, Hot Rail in the middle and a tele neck pickup.... OR.... yeah... we need to speak, mate! :-)

Re: Corsair GT transparent red WE7400TRR project-name your price
Is that a crack down the back of the neck?
Re: Corsair GT transparent red WE7400TRR project-name your price
If you enlarge it, it looks more like dirty scratch/gouge

finish is damaged and that flaw that has collected some dirtyness. as far as i can tell there is no real damage to the wood, such as a crack.Westbone wrote:Is that a crack down the back of the neck?

yes there is that chunk of wood missing that exposes the bottom of the anchor inside the tremolo cavity. and also the wood behind the anchor, toward the opening for the tremolo, has broken away but is still present.corsair wrote: is that a bridge anchor poking through into the spring cavity?

Re: Corsair GT transparent red WE7400TRR project-name your price
Very interested, Mike - even have a plan!! What do we need to do to make this happen?? I wouldn't be happy low-balling you but also given what it is going to take to make it work, certainly not going to pay top dollar, eh!! Happy about postage - you and I have had this dance before and it all went well... just need to figure out how close we are to a price!!
May need to wait for a week or two to settle up, as well, as we're off overseas on Saturday....

Re: Corsair GT transparent red WE7400TRR project-name your price
send me your address and i'll box it up and get a shipping cost
guitarfetish has a deal sometimes you can get a body for $35 and a neck for $15, giving you a basic platform to build on for a cool $50. seems fair enough to me.
i believe the kahler tremolo and locking nut that were originally fitted on these guitars is still available. not cheap, but still available. i never found a used trem on ebay or elsewhere.
for the rest of the parts, any aftermarket items should work.
the electronics have the original tone shaper circuit but since i've never built it out, i don't know if everything is still connected or works properly. these guitars also had a treble bleed cap which is present as well. have a look
looks like they just chopped off the neck and middle pickups because the wires are still attached in the right places. the humbucker seems to have been un-soldered from the third switch. the rest seems to be unmolested.

Right. Job done. I’ll pm you my address...
Immediate thoughts are a hardtail - Schaller top loader, tele pickup at the neck, hotrail in the middle, P-90 at the bridge. 5 way on place of those stupid mini switches. Dunno about the nut yet... may just leave the locking nut on to befuddle people...

Re: Corsair GT transparent red WE7400TRR project-name your price
Re-finishing is probable, simply because if I do hardtail it, then the wood I fill the trem cavity with will be unlikely to be matched with that awesome flamey top, so I'm not too sure about that part of the project!
Anyone got any ideas for that? I am certainly going to hardtail it - looking long and hard at a Schaller Hannes bridge, but will probably go with a Schaller 3-D...
Quite looking forward to this one, actually, but don't expect a quick job as I intend to take my time with it...

Re: Corsair GT transparent red WE7400TRR project-name your price
A suggestion, fraction of the Schaller cost and covers a lot of 'body'.
Could use a h'bucker size P90 ???? 'cause I know you're cheap...

Re: Corsair GT transparent red WE7400TRR project-name your price
Looks like a plan.
I'd be inclined to try and find a bridge in black if available.
Then possibly make your plug black as well so that any recessed area that's still visible will match. Or better yet a nice figured piece of maple finished in a natural finish similar to the Thunder centre, and if you're feeling adventurous, a walnut trim around the outside.
That angled shape would be interesting around the corners of the bridge plate. And it's lots easier to contrast than to try and match or refinish.
It would be a shame to lose that flamed finish

Re: Corsair GT transparent red WE7400TRR project-name your price
packing up for shipping i see a few things of note...
the neck is a special edition neck with only the "W" on the headstock instead of the Westone logo. also, these necks had threaded inserts.
this style guitar body was built with a tapered heel at the neck attachment which created the need for three different length bolts to attach the neck to the body. have a look...

I often wonder why "bolt on" necks don't actually have, um, bolts!
Makes great sense to me.
