Thunder 1 A Fretless bass
Hi,
I have recently purchased a Westone Thunder 1 a fretless bass.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Westone-Thunder-1A-Fretless-Bass-Black/273159094297?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
It all looks legit to me so I am just wondering why is there no Westone Thunder 1 A fretless bass model listed under Thunder basses in the main website?
The fret-board of the guitar i bought is completely smooth, i.e. it hasn't been de-fretted, and I think the original owner may have had it from new.
I have seen some other Thunder 1 A fretless bass models online, and some have been de-fretted but I am not sure about the others.
Is there such a model, or can anyone shed light on my guitar?
Thanking you,
Gabriel

Apparently not II's and III's but no I's
You may have a "rare" one there.
Now,of course..."we want pix!"

The pics below are from the ebay listing. If they are not of good enough quality I may take some additional ones myself...

Good going Damian. At least we know it isn't a mirage! Still a rare bird though.
I wonder if there was ever a catalogue with it featured.

Re: Thunder 1 A Fretless bass
That price list is from the '84 catalogue.
Looks like the side dots on the neck are just as the fretted bass.
Is that right GabGaff?

Re: Thunder 1 A Fretless bass
Yes, the serial number starts with a 4 so I guess a 1984 model.
See pic below for side dots...

Re: Thunder 1 A Fretless bass
...but neck not painted black as in a fretted model.

Re: Thunder 1 A Fretless bass
Around that time all the painted models had no paint on the neck, 6 strings and basses.
If you need a tuner with the logo(gear cover) give me a shout.

Re: Thunder 1 A Fretless bass
Ah ok, I have a black 1985 Thunder 1 A bass (fretted) that has a black back, that is what I was comparing it to...

I think the tuner is probably fine, but yes it does need a cover, so if you have one to spare, please let me know, thanks

Prefer the unpainted necks personally...GabGaff wrote:Ah ok, I have a black 1985 Thunder 1 A bass (fretted) that has a black back, that is what I was comparing it to...
What strings you have on the fretless?
Flat wounds play great on a fretless.

Right but not actually featured in the cat itself.Westbone wrote:That price list is from the '84 catalogue.
An interesting find nonetheless.
