Concord II Bass Empty Re: Concord II Bass

There's a 'Pearl White' listed in the April 1983 US price list, so I guess that's what we have there (it's definitely more white-looking in the 6th photo) - rather reminiscent of an aged version of the 'Pearl Silver' used on the Thunder II Bass (v. 3) & Thunder III guitars.

Nice finish & like you say, not one I've seen before Smile

Yeah, maybe produced just for the American market ?? (or a limited run)

Asking price is a little steep for the purist given the changes but from a sound and playabilty perspective maybe the changes/upgrades have enhanced the instrument and the seller is looking for a return on his outlay?

Trouble is, the whole thing about sound quality is that it is subjective, and you should never expect to recoup outlay on modifications to anything; you modify something so that it fits your vision.

If the seller was smart, he'd return the instrument to stock, and sell the Fralin pups, et al separately, instead of trying to convince everyone it's better this way. Rolling Eyes

Out of interest has anyone seen this finish on a Concord before, either first hand or for sale? (not in a catalogue).

It's pearl white that has slightly yellowed.

Used on 6 string Concord III's as standard at the time.

Concord II Bass Empty that's my bass

Post by pbman1953 Sun Feb 05, 2017 9:48 am

Hi Guys,

That Pearl Concord 2 is my bass. I see the point about bringing it back to stock and I could probably do that. Please understand that Fender did the same thing with the P pickups in the S1 Precision and sounded terrible. It had no bass and was very dry because they wanted to make it sound like a Jazz in the pulled S1 pot. . It didn't work . But on the other hand, it it did work for a Jazz and very well because you placed the pickups in series. In series the Jazz was big and full just like  P bass.

Wiring the bass to traditional Fender specs and by adding the Lindy's made this bass amazing. If you're hard core and not wanting the mod I understand but I have the opinions of many players that have tried and heard the bass before and after. Just because a manufacturer offers the bass like it was doesn't make it right. Look how many mistakes all manufactures have made trying to go after Fender and in the end Fender traditional was mostly correct.

Plus as far as values on these basses , I've noticed , have taken a downturn in value. That's a shame for owners and sellers because they are worth way more than the prices I've seen them for.

If you have any interest let me know

Thanks

Rich
