My Vantage VS600r
I bought this beauty about two months ago. It's a VS600 rainbow. My understanding is that uncle Mat made those 600 rainbow only for a very very short time, so my knowledge of the specific model are very, very limited, as there's about nothing about it to be found online.
It has MMK45 humbuckers with single/humbuckers switch, two volume pots and one tone.
Action is great and it plays and sounds great.
The serial dates it to 1981!
This guitar was actually runner-up: I was to buy a Thunder until the seller changed his mind. I guess all things happen for a reason, and this guitar is awesome.
Now if I had a period correct hard case for it itd be awesome!

Re: My Vantage VS600r
Period cases are nice, but flight cases are better!!
You know there is a forum devoted to these Matsumoku built Vantages, yes? I have about 5 or 6 Vantage but not a VS 600.

Re: My Vantage VS600r
The previous owner of my guitar is on matsumoku forums; it's also the only information I could find on the 600R (this exact same guitar) on all my searches online. Although I assume uncle Mat didn't make just the one...
Sadly I couldn't manage to register on matsumoku.
I am still looking out for thunders, maybe I'll be luckier next time.
When I got the guitar, it was missing the small cavity cover, that hides the selector switch. Can a replacement be found?
Except for that, it's all original. Although the selector switch is broken and I'd like a matching replacement.

Re: My Vantage VS600r
Selector switch looks like is all there. Might just want a squirt of switch cleaner.
Or could need a wire resoldering as you say the rear cover is missing.

Re: My Vantage VS600r
Hey Jamdog, welcome. I'm a big Vantage fan too and I have the "straight" VS600 model which I love. Biggest difference is 1V 1T.
Your extra V is nice to have but I don't really need it.
Corsair has already mentioned the Matsumoku site and that's pretty much it for documentation that I know of. Nothing magical about the toggle switch, you can find a suitable replacement just about anywhere, and you can make your own cavity cover fairly easily, you'll likely never find an original

Re: My Vantage VS600r
To be honest, the third knob means they are a bit higher up on the body, and I sometimes accidentally hit the neck pu volume while strumming. Lol. You're better off with 2, or 4. :p
Love the grain on yours, looks awesome.
I made a replacement cover but if ever anyone have a spare, let me know. (yeah, like it's going to happen)

Same reason I don't get along well with Strats...keep hitting the centre pickup!Jamdog wrote:...I sometimes accidentally hit the neck pu volume while strumming...
I love the beer and cigar setting too (well maybe not the cigar anymore).

Re: My Vantage VS600r
The switch is just a standard 3 way, and you've already made a cavity cover, so all good, really!!
I'm about to make some TRC for my Avengers out of a 2mm pickguard bought online for pennies, though getting the curve down from the nut to the headstock right could be problematic!
When did you try to register at the Matt forums? We had some trouble there a while back with spammers so the filters are set really tight, and I've a feeling that gmail addresses are refused point blank.

Re: My Vantage VS600r
My Gmail isn't accepted. I used another email but never received the registration email. Then I emailed the admin to delete the profile so I can start over, and it again didn't work.
That was two months ago.
The cover I made from a plastic Hammond enclosure cover, and shielded with aluminium foil using spray glue. Works OK. But it isn't as nice as a real one.
Barry, for me it's the height of the pickguard that I find annoying on the strat, it's too close to the strings. Pickup placement ain't too bad, my first guitar was a Jackson superstrat (think dinky) and the middle pickup doesn't annoy me much, but I feel I'm always on the verge of hitting the pickguard.
A cigar once in a while ain't really bad, plus it makes more interesting pictures!

Re: My Vantage VS600r
I am pretty sure I could get used to it. But I kind of prefer no pickguard.
Call me crazy.
