Those looks are killer. Nice job on all. I like the trans green but the blue is a close second as well. Nice work

Re: Three Thunder bass refinishes completed.
Thanks, the green was a piece of cake, the blue just wouldn't take well on the multi laminated ash and the red was hard as it reveals all the minor imperfections in the oil.
The customer is happy with both green and blue, he gets the red next weekend and I just hope he's as happy with that too.

I'll tell you when I get it this weekend, it's had a bad refret apparently may need a complete refinish so might splash out on a compressor /spray gun setup...

Well if your going to spray 2 pack paint or any paint get yourself some decent breathing apparatus also. Not just a cheap dust mask. Especially 2 pack it's poison!! and sits in yer lungs:face:
Re: Three Thunder bass refinishes completed.
Yeah thanks already looked into them, reckon I can get a compressor for £80,guns £25 each, respirator around £40, all obviously low end stuff but upgradable as and when.

'Not compared to arseoles'...you'll be suprised!.... Pearl is a packet.
Re: Three Thunder bass refinishes completed.
Mate, I looked into this a long time ago and that's the reason I use an expert!! The cost of the gear is just the beginning, and if you are going down this road, I would humbly suggest that you buy the best you can afford, eh; crap guns, budget compressors and cheap watertraps etc. are a recipe for a veil of tears... ask me how I know this!!
Then you must learn to use it.....
An expert has all the gear - and it's never poop gear!! - and the expertise which is hard earned; I've never ever regretted paying Hans for his work but I have regretted doing a half-arsed job because I was using poor quality kit that I only barely knew how to use!!
Oh... those Thunders are CHOICE, bro; looking forward to seeing the red one, eh!!

Re: Three Thunder bass refinishes completed.
Your advice is appreciated john, but I'm nothing if not persistent.
I understand the steep learning curve and the cheaper end of the equipment is limited, but after speaking to quite a few home builders and a couple of pro finishers I've been steered in the right direction regarding guns, traps, breathing apparatus etc, and I'm pretty confident I can set up for around £250 which will be my budget limit.
Plus I'll be mostly using nitro early doors which by all accounts is easier to learn with, ive a couple of junk strat bodies to mess up while getting to grips with it all.
I guess it's like anything, put in the time and listen to good advice and things will be just that bit easier.

Re: Three Thunder bass refinishes completed.
I've done a few nitro re-finishes in my time, and have thought about the options for a tougher finish, but never got round to finding out about it.
So, if I wanted to get a guitar body repainted in 2 pack, should I seek out someone who specifically does guitar refinishing, or would any car body shop be OK?
