Looking to purchase a Rail
Hi folks! I'm new here and am looking to purchase a Westone Rail. Color isn't especially important to me, but condition is. Ideally, would like it to be in "Excellent", to no worse than "Very Good" condition, hopefully without dings, chips, scratches, etc. (I recognize that finding a truly "minty N.O.S." would probably be a bit too much to expect - but one can always hope, right? ;-) ) And, "just in case", I am prepared for price to likely be proportionate to condition. I've just started looking, so I recognize this may take some time, but I'm ready to act quickly when and if I learn of "the right one"...
Does anyone here have one for sale, have one they're toying with the idea of selling, or just have any 3rd party leads they'd care to share?
In addition to looking here, I'm also looking in the more general usual places (reverb, gbase, ebay, craigs list, etc.), but don't see a suitable candidate in any of those places, at least not quite yet.
BTW, I'm located in the US.
Thanks,
r-gordon-7

Re: Looking to purchase a Rail
There was one on eBay when I looked last week, though I think that was in mainland Europe somewhere!
There are very few of these appear for sale and if one did appear, I think I'd be grabbing it up, regardless of condition; it can always be restored, eh!!
Good luck in the hunt, man, and welcome here!!

Re: Looking to purchase a Rail
Thanks, Corsair, Fairchild & The Chad. Unfortunately, the one that was on eBay in Europe sold just before I started looking. Either that one (from the UK) or the other one that shows up on eBay as "completed" (the red one) each look like one I would likkely have gone for, had I seen either one in time. Unfortunatley, I came a bit too late to the party for either one of those. I did see the two currently on Reverb before I posted here, but I'm hoping to find one in better condition (i.e. fewer scratches & dings) than either of those two - and am prepared to pay more accordingly. Hopefully, "the right one" will come along in due course... :-)

Re: Looking to purchase a Rail
Good luck with your search, but as Corsair says, you'd likely be better off grabbing one that takes your fancy rather than waiting for a "perfect" specimen to surface.
Scratches and dings are almost always going to be found on any Westone given their age. And those sort of touch ups are easy to do yourself, or have done eh?

Richard, I've sent your email address to Damian to follow up.
Hey Damian, beautiful pix. OK to swipe 'em for the website? We don't have much in the listing.

Re: Looking to purchase a Rail
A truly odd instrument and yeah; that's in very nice order indeed. Does shifting the pickup along the rails affect the sound in a major way or is the effect more subtle?
Nice to see what the back looks like, too - never seen that....

Re: Looking to purchase a Rail
The pickup slides 72mm. Playing right above the pickup you can hear a good range of tones. They sound a great deal fuller than they look.
Re: Looking to purchase a Rail
Worth at least $1000! I mean LOOK at it!
Come on... buy it!!! You'll be happy.
