Discussing with a Spectrum-owning friend that I am getting readings of >11 ohms on my Thunder MMK45s and >5 ohms coil tapped, he grumbled that his figures were more like 6.48 and 3.28.  Does he have the derided UBC pups?
He's never had them out to check.

The tone sounds OK to me and he's in no mood to upgrade as he wants to keep to the original spec.

I assume resistance is related to output so apart from needing more amp vol/gain, what's the problem with lower resistance?  Maybe an advantage for jazz?

Yup.
Most of us have replaced them in favour of something with more "umph". But that's primarily for stage work where you'd likely need to extra power to balance off against the rest of the band.

But if you're simply playing on your own, or in a quieter delivery setting, then the stock pups are likely adequate. Many like the tone which they deliver...at least in full humbucker mode. The coil split is kinda pissy and thin though.  Neutral
