Hammer Humbuckers?
Has anyone any experience of the Hammer Humbucker pickups as used on the Concord H II range?
Described in the catalogue as being "Powerful", are they rock pups and/or could they give warm clean tones?
Thanking You

Re: Hammer Humbuckers?
Yeah... Damian does that just to make us all hate him equally, I think; he has GOOD gear!
53's seem to be found on the active Matts; the T-IIA has 'em as does my Vantage VA900, the 61s for the 335 clones and probably the big jazz boxes, too, and the 75s on the X350/390; sound about right?

Just easier than typing a load..
http://forum.westoneguitars.net/t4998-going-rate-for-a-thunder-2a
If your looking for a clean sound with bite..Thunder II, forget the actives...just don't like 'em.
Thunder II(passive) has PEQ(series/parallel) and a phase switch. You want clean, it's spotless...
Not the Korean made piece of junk version IV. That's just a cobbled together guitar using all the bits available and who knows what the pickups are.

High output vs. lower output. And I agree with John....

Re: Hammer Humbuckers?
So the DC resistance kOhms is the same from the MMK75's to the MMK45's and MMK53's?

Re: Hammer Humbuckers?
They are similar in terms of of kOhms, right on.
MMK45, 53, and 75's are all ceramic magnets (ferrite), with the 53's and 75's being the same type of ceramic mag (Anisotropy Ferrite).
Varying from roughly 10.something to 11.something (or higher, as they are knows to greatly vary).
The only Alnico mags were in the mmk61's.

Re: Hammer Humbuckers?
Not if the #765 is actually the MMK75, which logically they would be. See the link below...

How do you know they're Alnico II?

Because I can read..

I also believe that MMK53's are alnico 5's in Westone's . I'm no magnet expert but can tell the difference between a ceramic and alnico from sight.
Re: Hammer Humbuckers?

Makes you wonder how many actually were actually Alnico II, though? They REALLY MEANT IT when they said "Specifications subject to change without notice"!
Someone on the Electra forum has an MMK45 out of a Vantage, he measured it... surprise! It read 17k!

Mat pickups are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.

Re: Hammer Humbuckers?
Ooh err! misses
Well your only reading someone's guff on Vantage..
Each make, be it Vantage, Aria, Westone had their own 'voice' so to speak.
They're not going to change the pup bottoms to suit. It'd cost a fortune.
