Post by corsair Tue Mar 04, 2014 4:58 am

Anyone got any idea what the fonts used in the Westone scripts might be? I'd like to put the legends back on the headstock, and the s/n on a reverse....

Didn't someone in here work on the Westone artwork - the 'W' eagle - at some stage??

Found THIS on a quick search, and I think Jim was doing something on logos IIRC.

I only have this one atm, but if you give me a good pic of what you need and some time, I'd be happy to extract any logo (quite any file format including vector graphics possible)

That's likely the best image.
I don't think that there are any hi-resolution originals to be had, only scans of catalogues, etc.

Hans and Pat; thank you both and good on you for helping!!

What does the rest of that image read, Hans?? Looks very similar to the Bird logo and Westone script I've got on the Raider....

Pat, I've made up my own designs for water slide transfers so I assume that what you've done is similar. I took hi-res photos of the headstock decals before stripping it.... now what??

Wich rest excactly do you mean? That is the logo and the westone-script that is on an x390.

I took a high resolution photo of the headstock, opened it with the little program "paint.net" (bit like photoshop but freeware, a very good program in my eyes...) and used the "lasso"-select tool (or the magic wand-tool, not sure any more) to select the bird and the letters, copy/pasted into a new, white pic, played with the contrast- and brightness- settings to get the logo black and took care of some imperfections with the brush- or the pencil-tool.

Today I guess I'd use a CAD-software, as you can import the existing photo with the right dimensions (if you know the distance between 2 points in the pic) and draw the outlines of everything. Then you can fill these outlines with paint/paint.net etc... this way is the more elegant but more difficult one. Advantage would be that you can set the resolution as high as you want.

I've done this pretty much the same as well.  I usually clean up the edges in the Paint type program and then do the lasso/ select tool to copy into a grey scale image.  So when it prints, it does not print any color for the background.

The link formating of pdf files doesn't seem to do it's job with this software Evil or Very Mad  Although it seems to work in preview. How about that admin?

This is as close as I can get ....

westone - Westone artwork/fonts RaiderII_zps1aaed681

..  the text is Crillee light Italic and the "II" is Rockwell.

I'm hopeless at this stuff; I'm OK designing my on artwork but I'm quite lost trying to match fonts, and knowing how to get the Westone logo down in size and recoloured...

Anyone got a fast lesson for idiots?!?!

John

I use microsoft paint shop. You can mess around with the colour in there. As far as size is concerned, I move the finished logo into word, have a guess at the size and print it in black and white on paper. I then hold it against the headstock and by trial and error get to the correct size.

Only when I am happy will I print coloured on water slide paper.

I think you should fiddle with the 'tracking' of the font to get the letters of the font closer together John.
Have a try at http://www.sumopaint.com/app/ online to get an idea. write a tekst, select it and use the slider in the tracking button.
(sumopaint text tutorial)  I myself used GIMP mainly but has a learning curve.

BTW You can download a trial version of the best quality official Letraset Crillee Italic font here:
http://www.fonts.com/font/itc/letraset-crillee#product_215737 But only after registering and keep in mind it says:

You may Use the Trial Font Software on the number of Workstations in your Licensed Unit
in each case for a period of five (5) minutes and solely for Evaluation Purposes.

So... you best toy with a subsitute enough before considdering using the real thing if that is what you are after.

You're very close John. It looks like you've got the "Raider" in bold? I'd take it off. Too fat.
The Roman Numerals need to be a bit taller and the serifs should be joined (top and bottom).
And yes, use your tracking adjustment to reduce the kerning between the letters. The whole thing needs to be "snugged" up.
With those changes I think it will be quite acceptable.

Thanks Barry; all input gratefully accepted!!

Nope, not bold; that's the only free Crillee font I found in about half an hour of scouring the web, so it'll have to do!!

After a fair amount of poking and prodding in Paint and Word, I've got them all ready to go; I used Paint to recolour the bird logo and brand, and Word for the Raider II & serial. Yep; did the serifs and piddled about with the kerns and got it as close as i could, so it's onwards!

I hope I can put acrylic clear over Hans' 2 pack clear when the decals go on.... Damian??
